Why I am a Prince Fan Back in the year of August 19, 2003 my Uncle Sean died at the age of 28 of cancer. That day I was really upset. So upset that I tried to kill myself (for the 3rd time) However, 5 mins before I did it I got bored and put in my dad's copy of Purple Rain. Listening to every little word and song I began to understand what Prince was singing about. Once I did I felt more free and happy with who/what I am and was. I began to see the light that would help me through any dark time I will/would face. So, almost one year later and here I am happy as can be and standing up for what I believen in. So, as you can see I own my life and so much more to Prince. That is why I am the way I am today. So, now all I want to say is...
THANK YOU PRINCE FOR CHANGING MY WORLD AROUND FOR THE BEST!! LOVO(+> Gold Peace And B Wild! Welcome 2 The Dawn! [This message was edited Tue Jul 27 11:23:28 2004 by Goldniga] [This message was edited Mon Aug 2 8:18:05 2004 by Goldniga] [Edited 3/9/05 12:52pm]

I don't get it.
Back in the year August 18, 2004? You mean a month from now you will try to commit suicide? After listening to Purple Rain you tried to kill yourself for the third time 5 minutes later? And you are writing this from one year later, so you exist in...August 18, 2005? Something about this is very fishy.

Wow. It's sad that someone would pass judgment like this. Goldniga, I say to you: "Whatever it takes." Prince makes me feel good and very alive in this world. I've never had an experience where a Prince song has "saved my life," though many of his songs have "made my day." That's a really powerful and personal story you shared. It reminds me of just how exciting it is to be a fan of Prince...that his music means so many things to so many of us. Thanks for sharing! You made the right choice by staying with us! ya know, i believe the cliche is true - when you're 14 or 15 years old and just discovering music, i think those are the most important years of your life in terms of what you'll be listening to for the rest of your life.
why am i a prince fan? cuz on august 21, 1984 i woke up to find a pile of birthday presents waiting for me on the kitchen table. when i called my mom at work and she told me to unwrap them, i found that i'd been given every single prince record - on vinyl, no less - from "for you" up to "1999". PLUS all the time's albums. i spent my 14th birthday getting to know every prince album for the first time, and that day was probably one of the most formative moments in my life as far as my love of music is concerned. i grew up around a lot of music, and it's always been music i liked. i grew up with a drum set in the dining room and a parent who, when i was a kid, was experimenting with listening to different kinds of music - i'd come home from school and find bootsy albums and residents singles and spyro gyra albums scattered around the stereo - "what's this mom?" "it's weird, you'll like it." prince was the first music i knew was good that was MINE, and not something passed down to me by my mom. i think he was the first pop star i liked that she "approved" of, because exuded so much more talent than much of the teenybop new wave stuff i liked before getting into him. i think being "enabled" into being a fan made me explore music with a higher standard, and i'm really appreciative that i was taught those standards. so, well - somewhere in there is the answer to the question of this thread.
