that wouldn't make sense. i imagine he's makin enough money (and then some) from the tour alone so that when it's all over, he'll pretty much be well off. to charge an extra dollar after the fact would be just plain...i dunno, greedy.
that, and most of the fans/friends/freex/fams/whoever would be up in arms if he did that.

that, and most of the fans/friends/freex/fams/whoever would be up in arms if he did that. How about, say $65.00 per ticket without CD, and $65.01 per ticket with CD? That way it's all about the sales. The cost of the CD is effectively built into the ticket cost, but he'd still get around the rules. And it would be a great gimmick charging 1c for an album. That's as good as being 'free'.

if the album had a really, really strong single on it, there wouldn't be any need to try and increase sales through concert giveaways / building the price into the concert ticket price. Don't get me wrong - i really like Musicology, and it's a solid album. But there isn't a killer track on there.
If he released an album with a track which had the universal appeal of something like cream (don't balk) or gett off, he'd be laughing. Musicology's a good little funk groove, but it's no killer single. Call my name is a pretty enough ballad (though personally i find it vastly inferior to On the Couch) but it's no killer single. Cinnamon Girl, if the damn thing ever gets released in the UK - similarly.

i made a thread similar to this where he puts some vault songs
on one cd sell it for 5 dollars and advertise it as a gift to fans someone replied that a cd has to sell for a certain amount to counted as a sale

this statement is not true. Prince can give away his cds all he wants. at concerts, McDonalds, Macys, wherever. not counting as sales is different than him giving them away. besides, according to Prince, he isn't giving the cds away, the price for them is built into the ticket prices. I guess I am trying to say, what's your point? this message brought to you by logic.

I think the point is that he's been grandfathered with this album on this tour. The post is offering up a suggestion for how to handle the change that will be enforced for future tours and albums.
that said, I don't think Prince we'll try to go this route again. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

You people are all missing the point, according to the new billboard rules, it can't be very discounted like that in order for it to count for sales. Like someone else said, he can give them away all he wants, if he wants bilboard to count them as sales, they have to be somewhat near the price of the retail copys.

I don't think the original poster missed the point, so much as he didn't know the details of the rules, which is why the thread is a question. And now you answered the question. Good work! http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I think P can do whatever he wants...
He doesn't have to start dealing with the new Billboard rules... These are just to stop any other artist to sell big amounts in their concerts and enter the charts. Now, if he starts making music for Billboard purposes... this is a different topic! "America is a continent..."

That is to stop someone selling an album for 1 cent and getting to the top of the charts unfairly and making themselves out to be more popular than they really are. Didn't Mariay Carey release a single for hardly anything that went to the top? And then they changed the rules.
