Absolutely one of my favourite songs. Love all versions of it !
( the version on 1999, the version from the summers in 83 and 84, the almost 15 min. version from 84, the "piano" version, the celly 2002/ ONA version..etc.etc..a true masterpiece !) Now I´m really curious to hear that acoustic version.. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

All versions are amazing. Give the original some props -- it definitely fit into the feel of the entire album, and the alternate wouldn't be as well loved without the original. I wonder if he's got an extended version of this lying around the house somewhere...

oh yeah! I love Something In The Water.
and i'll never forget hearing that 15 min '84 version for the first time! "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"

It’s a frolicsome ruse bereft of any true love sentiment,
Asphyxiated by the weight of it’s ostentatious whims, Made deaf by the bellows of it’s droning rhetoric. An homage to vaginas and not much more.

My favorite is the version that's on the album...totally futuristic. Andy is a four letter word.

Brilliant track.
It's one of those tracks he did that just raised the bar, it's just brilliant in it's execution. I feel sorry for people who only think of Prince as Cream, Gett Off and Kiss - they miss so much.

I looooove this song. Ive not heard too many alternate versions, but i have the one from the 2002 celebration where he segues into The Question Of U, and that is blindingly good.
Ive always found the first lyric really strange. The "U think u're special, well so do I". On the one hand i think hes telling this girl he thinks she's special, but on the other hand, Id love it if he was saying he thinks HE is special too. Just one of the many highlights on the 1999 album. This is the kind of song prince should be playing live. he could put on a great performance of this.

Where the hell do you people get all these alternate versions from? I've only ever heard the album version (its one of my all time faves)

Totally futuristic, but in a "retro" way . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

I think you might be confusing the "alternate" track with the tremendous 1984 rehearsal version for the 7th June gig. That one is my absolutely favourite version because he really tears it up on the guitar. Check out "Neon (sic) Rendezvous" for a taste of this. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."
