Following a three-night stint at New York's Madison Square Garden, sales of Prince's "Musicology" soared 289% to 74,000 copies. The NPG/Columbia artist's strategy of including a copy of the set with each concert ticket sparks a 64-8 jump to return to the top 10 of The Billboard 200 this week.

With that type of jump and those sales figures, I wonder how many acts are going to use this method of distribution next year?

Well...you can pass the album out, and include the sale in the ticket price, but Sounscan/Billboard will not count it.

one of two things...

either in fact the CD was not given out at this show (however I though i heard on here it was) or the pricing structure for the Essence festival was different fron the rest of the tour and soundscan did not count them because the price of the CD was not included in the ticket. I dunno.

It should stay in the top 10 next week with 4 shows being included (East Rutheford 2 shows, Hartford and Uniondale )

Remember when Prince used to sell like USHER. LOL..... well, at least we are platinum....that sucks about the Essence shows, tho..

Other acts will still be able to benefit if enough fans choose to include the cd along with the ticket purchase.

Actually, Billboard will count direct cd sales at concert tours if 2 ticket options are available tickets with cds, and ticket with no cds. Musicology tour only had 1 option with the cd price included. Prince is the first and last one to receive that royal treatment...

The artist must provide two options: What if the artist offers the with cd option for $1 more than the without cd option or better yet offer the cd option at a price lower than the without cd option?
