Shhhh I just received my Gold CD and started listening to it. "Shhh", I know I have heard that song before... but not by Prince.
Is this a Prince original? and if so, who has remade this song? Also, let me say, that I really missed some good music. I blame radio because if I heard some of these songs on the radio, I would have gone out and bought the CD. I thought I hate U was the best song on the CD. I haven't even heard but the 1st 2 so far but I already have a new fave. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Tevin Campbell also did Shh, and it was played on the radio quite a bit. I never heard Prince's version until I got the CD.

Prince's version was played on the radio in Chicago.

ok I probably remember Tevin Campbell's version.
So... who wrote the song? Prince? Thanks "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Prince wrote it, but Tevin's version was released first.
Prince actually recorded it in June 1992 on the same day that he recorded Peach. It's this version that appears on Tevin Campell's 1993 album "I'm Ready" (with Prince's vocals replaced by Tevin's). Prince then recorded a brand new reworked version of the track in January 1994 when he was recording tracks for The Dawn/The Gold Experience. He also recorded Eye Hate U, Days Of Wild & the 'album version' of The Most Beautiful Girl In The Word around the same time.

I personally thought and still do think that Tevin Campbells' version was alot better than Princes'. I also feel the same way about "Do me Baby".....Me'lissa Morgans version was alot better than Princes' orginal. "Love God"

Thanks all for the info.
Great song! I think I do like Tevin's version better maybe because I am used to hearing that version. I am so glad to hear P's version since he is the one who wrote the song. I always have great respect for song writers and musicians.... there are many people who can carry a tune... not many music creators. It’s a frolicsome ruse bereft of any true love sentiment,
Asphyxiated by the weight of it’s ostentatious whims, Made deaf by the bellows of it’s droning rhetoric. An homage to vaginas and not much more.

You have got to be kidding me? Shh is a song that only Prince could have wrote and Tevin's version, IMHO...well...isn't quite up to snuff No NPG backing band, Tevin singing "Dripping all over you like a ball of wax"?. and last but by all means not least, no P on guitar, especially the solo to close out the song?

I sure wish Tom Jones would try to tackle both songs. Think of all the panties that would fly then! .. [This message was edited Wed Jul 21 19:59:29 2004 by AsianBomb777]

Ohhhhh, now I see why the lyrics are so teen-age-ie. I always wondered why a grown man would talk about doing sombody after school like some homework..... <-----ME So...how's everybody doing?

Actually Tevin's version DOES feature the NPG backing band. It's really an earlier version that Prince recorded in 1992, just with Prince's original vocals replaced by Tevin's. The musicians on Tevin's version are Prince-Guitar & Backing Vocals, Sonny T-Bass, Michael B-Drums, Tommy Barbarella-Keyboards, Eric Leeds & Atlanta Bliss-Horns, Kathleen Johnson-Backing Vocals.

Shhh by P brought my house down when i got TGE. I was blown away. Absolutely awesome stuff, like the album itself.

And let me just remind you once more that Prince wrote that oozing sex ballad for a MINOR to sing. Otherwise the line "I'd rather do you after school like some homework" would be a rather, ehm, let's say Gary Glitterish. Unless he was talking about Mayte.
And that would still be Gary Glitterish.

Why is the gold experience out of print?
I only had this on tape and now I want the CD and it's gone. Too hard to find anywhere. This is such a wonderful album. Why is your Organ so small?
I didn't know I was playing in a cathedral. Vicky didn't laugh at all!

Altogether, $13.08. It is in pretty good condition, original case and inserts in good condition. There were others available also. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Really? Wow. Prince's version, just seems so much more...urgent, powerful. I have a live recording of this song perfomed at GlamSlam west and the crowd is just losing their gear. It gives me chills. I think one of my all time favourite Prince tunes.

Ebay I just replaced my lost GE, and it took me 2 weeks to find it in a used cd store. The woman at the store the first time I went in said, "We get it in here on a fairly regular basis--it just isn't considered one of his best," By whom exactly???? So my recommendation would be to watch used cd stores too... Don't be shy, this won't hurt a bit
Unless of course U don't believe in it

He performed it at a Paisley Park show in '94 ("Welcome 2 the Beaufiful Experience")...that remains my favorite version of it. Its a little different though, a little laid back, the delivery on Gold was a lot more passionate but musically, to me, its cleaner. ********************************************
