NWF said: Now, I still strongly believe that Wendy and Lisa were a big asset to Prince's work back in the Revolution era. Those 3 were an unstoppable musical force that made great music!!!! W&L's influence had definitely created an impact on Prince and his sound. He had the funk, but Wendy & Lisa added color and flavor to it.
HUGE Co-Sign! This will always be debated, but time has told the truth. Color hasn't been in his mix since Lovesexy. Lovesexy Funkateer

illimack said: I never really got all the W&L hoopla. Yeah, they were cool, but P did manage to write some pretty amazing songs without them. Do any of you not dig the Controversy, Dirty Mind, 1999 and Purple Rain albums? What were their contributions to those? When you look at P's overall body of work, thier involvement is really quite small. If not for the Purple Rain movie, I doubt that we would even still be talking about them. Like somone said, Dez and Andre and even Fink conributed to P's work also. But our affection for them is not as great because we were not introduced to their personalities. IF they were such the power houses and driving forces being P's music that yall try to make them out to be, what happened to them?
And let the church say...AMEN! That's the same reason why so many people are wrapped up in Mayte and hate Mani because they felt a connection with Mayte because she on display to the world. No one knows much about Mani and that's how P wants it, so there is no way that anyone will "bond" with Mani. She will simply be Mrs. Nelson. Sorry to deviate from the topic.. Carry on..

They were with Prince during his most creative period. Was it because of them? Doubt it. Check this song out at:

I think their influence actually hurt some of Prince's music. Some of Prince's songs with that strong psycadelic influence are some of the weaker ones of his 80's run imo.
I've heard some of W&L's solo music too, and it was pretty bad. Most sounded like empty, incomplete Prince songs. W&L just have that aura to them cause they happened to be around at a time when The Kid was at his creative peak as an artist. There's no debate. Their involvement and contributions pushed Prince in directions and took him to levels he would not have otherwise found. What's most significant is that they were actual collaborators -- something he did very little of before them, and very little after them. Whether we like or dislike what it was they did for his music, he allowed them to play a role that no others have. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

"Yes Lisa" "Is the water warm?" "Yes Lisa" "Shall we begin?" "Yes Lisa" -- Have U got any f@ckin' idea what that does to a 12 year old boy? W & L changed my damned life!

I liked Prince and the Revolution and also like Prince with the NPG, but what is most satisfying is to see that whatever band he chooses, he has stood the test of TIME!
W&L, Fink, Brown Mark, etc helped to define the punk rock era that Prince went through, but surely now you can see that Prince's show and sound have evolved into something more elegant, something more mature and jazzy. I have aged with the dude and I am rather enjoying this toned down version of P and his mature band.

Its a caseof "good old Days" syndrome. every musician in pigeonholed to it. nothing is ever gonna be as good as it was. the same goes for sports, tv and everything but movies. I for 1 dont fall for it. The girls were great but no better then almost all of the moving parts he has inserted thru the years (Insert something clever here)

I'm greedy and in love with Prince music! I wished he could have kept collaborating with them and also did his own thing aside from them at the same time.I want it all.And I'm curious as to where they would have ended up together. "I'm a pig..so,magic elixir I swill"

...and that is my two pennies. the end. You really think so? IMHO Prince solo is the best ("Dirty Mind", "1999" and the Camille album) but the "Dream Factory" album and the leftovers from it is just bliss... I really love Wendy & Lisa's solo albums and in those albums you can really hear that old signature "Revolution" sound that made Prince really interesting mid 1980's, I really dig their sound... I really think Wendy and Lisa just completed his sound perfectly (ok not always, "Witness 4 The Prosecution" anyone?) just like I think Eric Leeds is the perfect sax man for his sound... Neversin. Wendy and Lisa were great. They were definitely a huge part of Prince's life and earlier music. Do I think that they were more important to him than Sheila E., Eric Leeds, or Dr. Fink....nope, but that's just me. I think they were a little over-rated, not a lot, just a little.
