Prince's single releases are his most un-representative songs - agree, or disagree? I've often thought that Prince's single releases, the big hit singles, have been quite unrepresentative of his entire body of work.
I kind of get the feeling this is why some people don't take to Prince - The gen. public who like Gett Off, Cream and MBGITW but reject everything else. I wondered if this is because Prince makes, or works songs with a commercial intention in mind on occasion? Say Gett Off, U Got The Look, Let's Go Crazy, MBGITW, Theives In The Temple, etc. Do you agree that Prince's singles are very unrepresentative of his entire body of work?

I think it has more to do with the fact that Prince's body of work is so extremely eclectic, that it would be impossible for his singles to be representative of such an enormous and varied catalog. The Normal Whores Club

After the Batman album, P's singles are my least favorite tracks from the albums for the most part. Too middle of the road for my tastes. Middle of the road by design, obviously. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

The albums after LoveSexy are inferior … most single-releases too, so they fully represent that period. Most of all : I really f*ckin’ hate the “power-ballads” One exception to the rule: Sexy MF …. far superior to the album
