More Prince Praise on Howard Stern this morning

Howard started off his show first thing this morning (6/19) saying how a friend of his (an org'er perhaps) had made him a compilation of Prince TV appearances and how he was just blown away but how great he is. In particular, Howard mentioned the Rock And RolL HOF guitar solo and the Webster Hall appearances. He even said he thinks Prince may be the greatest guitarist EVER...said he was at least better than Eric Clapton. Not that we here didn't know THAT already! Of course, after the praise, Howard did go on to goof on Prince's clothing but still...who doesn't do that even if he does pull the shit off?!!

Anyway, I know Howard's not everyone's cup of tea but still it's nice to hear P get the praise from such a prominent media figure

Stern has been a Prince fan for years. He constantly goofs on public figures, even those he admires and even those he's personal friends with. So he's always talked shit, but he's always praised Prince as well. The first time I personally heard Howard go on and on about how great Prince is was way back in 1996.

He was right though. Most people didn't give a shit about Prince after '91, '92.

Howard also said on his website that a Prince album is perhaps his favorite album ever. That's cool that someone sent him a copy of the recent TV stuff. I sent him a couple of bootlegs and a CD filled with Prince live mp3s, but who knows if it ever got to him or if he even cared about it. I don't think he is a big enough fan to want to listen to bootleg stuff, but I'm a big fan of both Prince and Howard, so I sent it just in case.

Why? This tour is nothing special. It's certainly the weakest major tour he's ever done.

Jesus what a load of crap! Having seen the show last year in Australia which was basically the same, and looking forward to seeing him in Portland in September I can tell you this tour kicks much arse over a number of Prince tours that I have heard/seen on boots and certainly pisses all over your precious Slipnot and Marilyn Manson crap.

How about the Diamonds and Pearls tours and the Rave era tours, for example? Much weaker. You're a lone voice on this one, EWM...or at least one of very, very few.

The Jam of the Year tour was easily the weakest major tour he's ever done. I'll take long jams over butchered snippets and medleys any day. Not only is he treating the old stuff with the respect it deserves, the new material is vastly better than what he was promoting on JOTY.

The Jam of the Year tour wasn't the best either, but at least he still had some balls back then.

And I don't think he treats the old stuff with the respect it deserves because he's playing them half-assed. There were a few exceptions like with Bambi of course, but overall most songs were lacking.

shrug
Agree to disagree. This tour has me excited like no other Prince tour I've been old enough to witness.

I thought I heard Howard say he had tickets for one of the MSG shows before he went on vacation. Since he was on vacation that week he certainly could have gone and not worry about getting up early the next day to do his show. It wasn't quite clear to me on Monday (his first day back on air after two weeks) if he did go or not.

I remember 3 or 4 years ago Stern was playing this clip of Stuttering John (could have been one of his other assistants) at a media/press gathering and Prince was making some announcement....

Anyway Stuttering John(?) asks him some really bizarre question and Prince just pauses and finally says " We got a plant here y'all, he's a plant y'all". At that point Stern stops the clip and says " It's sad that he doesn't even know he's irrelevent anymore. Who cares about his dumb announcement, nobody even cares anymore"

I know Howard does this sometimes and I have seen it happen many times...for years he ripped on Sammy Hagar then Sammy drops in and all is well and Howard is kissing his ass. I like Howard, but he is forever changing his opinions on people. One week he likes them/ next week he berates them.

I know he is saying good things once again about P, but Stern's comments after that clip pissed me off.
