Isn't it time that Prince was on it?

Have people like Nikka Costa, Chaka Khan, Alicia Keys, D'Angelo belt out his songs and in this way celebrate Prince's craftmanship?

And in the meantime show off to the MTV generation that there are actually people that still play instruments?

Somebody school me. They haven't done an MTV icon for this year have they? They just started it in 2001 with Janet. Don't tell me they've done away with it already. Last year I think it was Metallica and theirs was downplayed. They didn't get the same play that Janet and Aerosmith did.

Probably because Metallica's was an embarrassment... I mean... Korn doing "One?" I love Korn (they were my first favorite band back when I was in 7th grade), but that's a total "WTF?!?!" kind of song choice.

However, I doubt Chaka or Nikka would be used on a Prince MTV thing since they don't connect with MTV's audience. Alicia would be a def. choice, and D'Angelo would be a "maybe" (since MTV hasn't done anything on him in like 4 years). I'd place a bet on Outkast (maybe just Andre...) doing a cover if one were to be done. Maybe the Foo Fighters could do their version of "Darling Nikki."

...Then they'd go and do something stupid like have Usher do "Adore" (I like Usher, too, but, well, not a fan of the idea of him doing Prince songs) and Beyonce do "If I Was Your Girlfriend" (or maybe switch them up.. but I wouldn't mind seeing them duet on "Erotic City" with Usher's dance moves and Beyonce's sexiness).

Frankly, I'd hate to see an MTV Icon for Prince. He's been reported as to having reservations about people covering his songs, so why make him sit through an hour and a half (or however long taping runs) and fake a smile the whole time? Not only that, but I'd rather not hear his classics get butchered by people who aren't him... And who knows if he'd demand creative control over who does what covers (i.e. no risque stuff).

While this is a good time for such a presentation, I just don't trust MTV or Prince enough to think that it would be a good show.

Do we really need RMPTTV trying to paint his ass like they love him SOOOO much? UNMTV is so scattershot now, they would probably use Assless Simpson and her tuna sister in the show. The mere thought of Nick Lashitty covering one of his songs would make me cut off my ears with a butter knife.

Ya'll are right. Prince is more than deserving but I could not take some crappy new-folks doing his songs.

Unless he does it himself - I would prefer a review of his career in video...
