I just bought this album used for $7 over the weekend at FYE  I almost died when I saw it lol.I've been trying to get it on Ebay forever but it was always too much money.~Stephanie~

Lucky me, I ordered Crystal Ball at www.amazon.com last Thursday from a buyer because Amazon didn't have it (the cd was out of print). It was a new copy, all sealed and in excellent condition. He sold it for $27 bucks and I got it this Monday. Oh, did I forget 2 mention it wasn't the pexi-glass case version, I guess it was the in-store version, and it had all the inserts and the booklet. As a three disc set, it's begs comparison to Emancipation.
Yet, it's everything Emancipation is not. The songs are outwardly exciting, but many have little substance. It's easy to like on the first listen, but hard to love over time. It has more bad songs than Emancipation, but probably greater songs, too. Each disc of both albums has a distinct style to it, but the songs on Emancipation are much more alike stylistically (which makes sense, since they were recorded around the same time, where Crystal Ball's songs span many years). I think it's definitely worth having if you're a fan, but not if you're a casual listener, and yet I think many of the songs would appeal more to casual fans than would Emancipation's. Emancipation is an album, Crystal Ball is a compilation. The inclusion of the Truth makes it all the more worth it, however. Check this song out at:

While "The Truth" is cohesive and could have existed on its own as an album, there's nothing cohesive about anything else (not including Kamasutra, which is cohesive in its relatively uninteresting instrumental-ness). I also agree with the comment that "Crystal Ball" is most exciting right when you first buy it. After that, I agree that you'd want to take particular tracks and fit them in to compilations you make yourself...those songs work better in that context, and there ARE some really good ones. No true "fam" should be without it...you'd be missing out on some great material. But it's not going to be the one you're spinning all the time from start to finish. Keith/Kacey | |

Keith/Kacey You're absolutely right. Any Prince fan has to have this album and The Truth CD is worth all the money. No, it's not going to be the album that you're going to be playing start to finish because it's long. And hey, I didn't pay attention to some of the filler and/or overkilled tracks but that song "Cloreen Bacon Skin" is the one I payed most attention to even if the track was bad and at its best, worst.
