Actually, I think he should also get back with Wendy & Lisa and do some more Alternative/Jangly/Psychedelic/Paisley/Funk/Pop. Them Roadhouse Garden sessions were great and it showed a very colorful and creative side to Prince. We're not really seeing him tap into that stuff anymore. Well, there is "Cinnamon Girl", but that's not like his stuff with W&L.

shrug Just a thought.

A really really good thought! biggrin

Question!

1. Where did Prince say his next project was for the fans?

2. Since when did Prince use the term Fans?

3. Since when did Prince to anything except for himself?

4. Why was "Musicology" not for the fans then? Do fans not like it?

Prince said the next one would be for the fans, so what do you want from it? I'd like either a fully fledged FUNK album played with the band, or a seriously GUITAR oriented venture. The greatest hits acoustic album seems like it'll be neither.

I would like a really wild guitar oriented venture. Not a remake of Purple Rain, but something FRESH that could just show Prince tearing it up with his funky guitar. Prince has written enough ballads in the past 2 years to last us the rest of the 21st Century. Now, how about some straight up rock, with a little funk as a chaser? headbang

Luv & Peace,
Alex
Clubbin' in Mpls/A Night w. Prince

That would be awesome.

A collection of 12 catchy, easily accessible, 4 minute songs in which Prince just totally lets rip on guitar, with multi-layered vocals (all by Prince) and a good blend of slow and fast tracks. And real drums.

Like Peach, U Got the Look, etc....

It would probably be seen as a shameless bid to become REALLY popular again. So I reckon he should follow it up 2 months later with NEWS pt 2 - but this time make the 4 songs 28 minutes long each.

And then refuse to play anything live but the 28 minute instrumentals.

And then change his name back to the symbol.

GO ON MY SON!!!! smile

OK, so I may not talk the talk but I certainly walk the walk razz

I happen to have some new stuff that would jolt your eardrums and have you weeping with joy, not to mention force your unreconstructed white ass to shake for days on end. Knowing you I dare say it won't be a pretty sight to behold, though lol

You just have to find the time to be exposed to some serious funk, otherwise you will remain the hopeless dilettante we all love and cherish lol

I wanna be surprised. If he tries to please others with a guitar-oriented album it won't work if he's not feeling it. The only thing I'd like to see eventually is for him to get back in the studio with Wendy & Lisa to see if there's anything left there. It'd be a shame if they didn't atleast try. That way we either get great music or those who have been hoping for such a reunion can move on. smile

Heavy guitar stuff with atttitde and sick riffs. Then mix in a bunch of synths and maybe a touch of industrial.

He should do something Bjorkish with overtones of classic David Bowie, Rick James, The Beatles, Miles Davis during the 'On The Corner' period, and Tim Buckley! eek

No... no... actually forget I just said that!

Mmm..Prince has a 'Starsailor' in him of course, but maybe he's got too many nice Italian silk feather filled pillows in his present mind tunnel to produce something as dark, dischordant or kalideoscopic as a cock in the cranium.

Just something a bit eclectic.

something rock, something funky,
something weird and something bluesy.

Rock to outrock Peach, Let's Go Crazy and Endorphinmachine
Funk of the deepest sort, to outfunk D.M.S.R, Head or Controversy
Weird, like the first time you heard Sign O' The Times or Something In The Water (Does Not Compute)
Bluesy, like The Ride or 5 Women
And of course some great ballads like Adore, Do Me Baby or Damn U.

I'll be happy with good structured songs and no more of the laboured funk workouts he likes to do. Just good songs like he used to do in the day, and less of the jams he started to introduce in the 90's.
But I wanna hear something new in the production. No more re-hashing the 80's vibe (like musicology) but creating a new sound thats still distinctly prince...I know its a tall order, but if he's half as good as we know him to be, then it shouldnt be a problem

...Oh yeah, and no rap

He's provided answers questions 1 & 2 in various interviews, I'm sure someone like langebleu would enjoy looking it up, and providing you with links.

In response to Q4, the fact that Prince has mentioned the next album is to be specifically for the fans, suggests that Musicology was designed to reach a broader audience. Whether fans like it or not, is besides the point.

No, that was to understand what the response would be to such a set, and to have some fun. I'm personally glad you enjoyed it so. Are you surprised there is now talk of a greatest hits set to be released later this year?
