"GET THE FUNK UP! BATMAAAANNNN!!!!!!!!" I believe it was around this time 15 years ago that we were all grooving to this catchy lil' number. I can still remember it: The summer of '89. Batman was the shiznite!!!!! And the person providing the soundtrack was none other than our hero! I remember seeing that video for the first time. My musical hero paying homage to my comic book hero (and villain, because I love The Joker ). Now many of you think that his Batman album doesn't really hold up as well today as his other classics. That may be true, but it depends on how you felt about the album then. I can still listen to it today and dig it because I've always liked it. I mean, just look at Batdance. That song kicks major ass! I remember my cousin visiting my family from Cali that summer. She loved Prince as much as me and we danced all the way through that record. It was just too cool. So, I've shared with you my thoughts on this era. Now let's hear yours. Let's talk about how cool this soundtrack was back in the summer of '89. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Very....Watching that Movie and Screaming and Cheering whenever a Prince tune played. I Thought that Was a Breakthrough for a Soundtrack and Prince Not DANNy ELFMAn should Have Won the AWARD. I Really Liked the CHOREOGRAPHY and PRINCE with his Long Hair . Partyman was SOOO COOL! When Prince had No Name I Once saw him at the Palladium and Said There's PARTYMAN.... But well When he Did ELECTRIC CHAIR on SNL"S aniversary that was so Terrific and I Do Believe Miss Candy Dulfer ...Yes..Candy was there.. Anyway, the Batman Soundtrack in my Opinion was and is Great! So Glad Prince did I LOVE U IN ME in NJ...It Was BEAUTIFUL! Imagine Somebody SAYING THAT To YOU? HOW UTTERLY ROMANTIC...

LOVE THE BREAK...
And where, and where, is the batman???... LemonCrush is very underrated. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Tell me about it
That's what got me into Prince in the first place so the album has so much significance for me! The first Prince album i bought was Batman...and I remember reading the tape's liner notes in the car ride home...and being 11 years old, I remebering reading "sung by Batman...sung by Vicki Vale" and actually thinking the characters sang it! Yeah, I was an idiot I know...the sad part was that I was looking forward to hearing them. For about a year after I made the transition from comics to music and anytime Prince woulld be on tv, I'd watch to see if Batman would be mentioned Ahh, 15 years.

They were saying way back Prince wanted to play The Joker..Said he Befriended Basinger and Nicholson and I read this in INTERVIEW with BASINGER...He Got a FEEL for The ACTORS in Order to WRITE SONGS About or FOR Them.. I Love Lemon Crush. I Miss also prince's PICTURE DISCS REMEMBER and he had the Different B-Sides and The Batman songs were like Silver and Black Batcan than Yellow and Black then Red and Black Bat for scandalous. I Liked all those and their was the Purple and Black also. So Cool. And his mini 3"s also are Wayyy Cool. Don't Ya Love all That Stuff? And Remember all those Posters ? Him On the Chair? The Face shots..The Giant Door poster. Damn It..LOL.. I Have and Bought Everything...I heard some Hardcore Fans Sold Their Collection..To Me That would be Worse than Death...never... I Actually need More so anybody Selling Contact Zel.. Never to Sell her GuRU..

Lemon Crush was truly underrated, but so was Vicki Waiting. I loved it...I still believe the "Batman" Sdtk was right up there with the rest of his stuff. its better then Chaos and Disorder, and NPSoul...acutally, i liked it better then graffiti bridge til i Re-bought Graffiti and Realized its importance. I still remember my first listen to Batdance, though. I was in a car heading from a family reunion in Saginaw, Michigan....I used to make my own music charts... I was in LOVE with that song. summer of 89..damn Tsk Tsk, What a pity...sometimes Life can be so shitty....

Just got my nephew his first Prince CD and this was it. I know it's not the best by a long shot, but I certainly think he'll like it a lot. Christian Zombie Vampires

I wish I could say that the movie made me a fan but it didn't. That was my first exposure to Prince. Summer of 1989 I was 8 years old, about to turn nine. The Batdance video was a pretty heavy experience for this eight year old! I remember that video was played constantly and I loved it. I was a huge Batman fan so I heard lots of Prince's music in the movie but I didn't become a fan until 1996 with Chaos And Disorder.
Question: Is Batdance the weirdest song to hit #1. By calling the song weird I ain't dissin' it but I think it sounds vastly different than anything else on the radio, then or now.

yeah, the batman soundtrack is one of my biggest memories of the summer of '89. i wasn't a prince fan yet (i still liked milli vanilli at the time ), but i remember taping "partyman" and "the arms of orion" every time they played on the radio.

I love the album but it has its faults.
"The Truth" and "Electric Chair" sound too much like "Batman". "Lemon Crush" is the same groove as "Music Of The World" from the "Minneapolis Genius" album. "Scandalous" is my favorite track on the album. It's truly in the "old Prince" vein. It could be played behind "Do Me Baby" or "International Lover" and still have that same feel. The whole album sounds great but it just seems like he threw it together real fast to reach a deadline. Andy is a four letter word.

That was a great summer! Ah..the memories. I loved the part in the music video where the hot girls came out and on the front of their clothing:"All of this and brains too." P was crawling under them singing "ooow yeah I wanna bust that body" "Did u love somebody
But got no love in return? Did u understand the real meaning of love? That it just is and never yearns" ...Prince

Prince, Nicholson, Burton, Batman, Joker, Batdance! I was 17 & forget it, totally Batty! That Summer the Batdance video was hot shit. I guess the only other thing I could add to all the cool stuff on this thread is how I brought my HUGE-ASS boom box into the theater to record the audio and listen to the movie at home "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"

i like the Batman album too.
i see people in here hating on Arms of Orion i happen to like the song. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
