"Female musicians tend to listen better, and they don't let their ego get in the way of music. I have a really great bass player -- Rhonda Smith. I notice that she doesn't think it's important for her to take solos and play too much and drown out the other instruments... she's a joy in the sense that she understands that her instrument, the bass, really is spelled B-A-S-E as opposed to B-A-S-S."
Does that quote sound like the 2004 version of, "I really like my wife, because she knows her place, and that's in the kitchen. And man can she ever make one mean stuffed pork chop!," to anyone else? Okay, maybe not the stuffed pork chop part. I have a feeling that if he ever said that about Wendy or Lisa, they'd smack him up. Prolly why Prince and the Revolution dropped the Revolution, before its time. Luv & Peace, Alex Clubbin' in Mpls/A Night w. Prince U all r reading 2much in2 the statement! Chillout damn! I have never been to a show where the lead performer shared so much spotlight and gave so much individual credit to each and every member of his band. I'm pretty quick to take offense to sexist remarks, but this just isn't it. Prince gives his people all the credit they deserve, and I just think his statement speaks to the idea that every instrument matters -- "master of the soft, not too loud." His keyboard player and drummer (both male) are both central to the show, but he shares a LOT of stage-time with Smith and they play off of each other wonderfully.
Self-righteous? Nooooo..... just keenly aware of his status and the social responsibility that goes along with it.

I will up EARLY 2 c what he has 2 say I'm a woman n I completely understand what he's sayin' as far as egos go...not 2 say that women can't have big egos, but I do believe that since we don't have testosterone we r better listeners. I kinda think that's all he was sayin'...we're more sensible

Looks like the Rhonda Smith comments were left on the editing room floor. "White people like Wayne Brady because he makes Byrant Gumbel look like Malcom X" - Negrodamus

I also watched the interview this morning. I also did not care for that idiot interviewer. She tried to pass herself off as a P fan, but then asked some dumb questions I thought. Perhaps the phrasing of some questions was what was bad. By the look on P's face, he also thought some of the questions were stupid as well.
I did however really enjoy P talking about his "racier" or sexier songs, and how his songs are more "sensual" as compared to songs now that he stated were "straight pornography". He also stated how there was never an evil or derogatory intent to his more X rated songs, when compared to songs of today. I agree with P on this!! All in all, a so-so interview(not P's fault, but more the interviewer's). *White, Black, Puerto Rican..Everybody just a-freakin'...-Prince(1980)*
