That's what makes this song so killer! Right when you thought Prince was dead, he busted this shit in your face. This was a great time to be a Prince fan. He went underground and came out swinging.

Actually, I had it as an outtake well over a year before it came out.

And Prince played it on the Gold tour in the spring of '95.

I saw it as another Sexy M.F. kind of thing, nothing left field, really. And I like Pheromone better than both Sexy M.F. and P. Control.

Also, the lyrics of P. Control are kinda hypocritical considering that Prince has apparently promised many a female to make them a star if they come and take a lick on his dick.

gotta love that breakdown, too...and that sick-ass jo-anne worley laugh-in warble he does in the chorus.

Apparantly, every time they said no to releasing what he offered, he "punished" them by replacing songs with inferior ones. The sex-version of Come and P. Control are obvious attempts to ridicule his perception of Warners' ideology as being "sex sells".

So in that regard - he made them tracks to provoke what he thought was Warners expectation of him by giving them sex, and then some - I suppose following the sex-version of Come plus Orgasm, something like P. Control was indeed to be expected. Ha!

It's always the first song I put on any comp. The only time I went against my "P Control always comes first" (numerous puns intended) motto was when making my ballad comp... and I STILL stuck the song on at the end!

I recall hearing it in a club before Seeing out on CD. It is certainly a stand out on the album.

I didn't like this song even when I heard it as a bootleg before TGE was released. I prefer the Versace Remixes to the album version. Prince and rap is unnatural. Maybe if it was more tongue-in-cheek I'd dig it more.
