Is One Night Alone a great box set? I was thinking about buying the One Night Alone box set, which has Prince performing some of his old + new songs, but I don't even know if it's good. There are 3 discs and the last disc has him playing some classic songs from the later night shows. I think the first 2 discs are going to be the best. So, please help me. Is it really worth buying? Check me out and add me on:

It's definitely worth buying. I never knew about this tour and have been kicking myself repeatedly for missing. Buy it and see how he interacts with the crowd. It's great! He's been working his way up to where he is right now all along.

yeah, the afterparty disc is worth it alone, but then the other two discs are excellent as well.

You're right, the first two discs are the best.
The third is good for "Joy In Repetition", but BEWARE of Musiq Soulchild popping up and RUINING "If You Want Me To Stay" by putting his own SHIT lyrics and melody to it. Also, George Clinton ruins a song on that disc - "We Do This" and the rest is just one chord vamping and jamming for ages which was probably great at the time, but doesn't work so well as a CD. Still not all that bad, some nice funky stuff and a great full version of "Dorothy Parker". The booklet is SWEEEEET and the box is lovely, too. BUY IT.

peace I have to agree with this. The 3rd disk is really good. However, looking back...I have heard better concerts. I barely take this out anymore. I liked it when I first got it. Then again...I am also on the road to collecting other shows...so I am a bit tainted. It is a good set...but too much piano medley for a whole disk for me to like it too much. I'd rather get a copy of the current tour than ONA. But if you are a fan...you should have it. It's not bad by any means (It's Prince) but as far as live shows go, I have heard better from him. And that 3rd disk is killer. Christian Zombie Vampires

I wouldn't say he ruins it...he's an old man now and is pretty much limited to what he can accomplish at the mic.I think it's a good song. "...all you need ...is justa touch...of mojo hand....."

What does "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore?" sound like? Does he do that little extended piece near the end where there's some smooth music playing and he just says "Call Me?"

Thanks Yes, he does. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.
