The Beautiful Ones

Saw a link at okayplayer for a band called Bargain Music, and they covered the Beautiful Ones, and just butchered it. Here's the link for the download:

Oh My Gawd! They butchered this song. Don't people know that they can't do Prince songs justice? But Prince can sure do any song that is not his and totally do it justice...examples: "Betcha By Golly Wow"-originally by an old Motown artist-forgot the name, "I Can't Make You Love Me if You Don't"-originally by Bonnie Raitt, "One of Us"-originally by Alanis Morriset. He makes them sound sooo damn good.

i remember reading a review of Rave which thought this was the outstanding track, calling it "an astonishing feat of dogshit to diamond alchemy".

i agree with the sentiment of some of the above posts though. some of prince's cover versions are among his worst stuff. i think 'one of us' is awful and i can well do without 'betcha by golly wow' compared to the original too.

on the other hand, 'honky tonk woman' rocked. cool
