"Eye Hate U" is definitely in my Top 10 list of favorite Prince songs -- maybe even the Top 5. It's gorgeous... just ask Toronto.

Yea, Carmen Electra must've really gotten under his skin for him to write this about her. Gr8 song.
It works really well when played directly after Carmen's All That (for which he brilliantly sampled a bunch of the music from Adore); it's a cool, sexual little love song. I love how, while she's kooing about him being 'All That', his quiet, whispered background vocals keep repeatng "i love it when we have a fuck" - it took me ages before i picked up on that.
Then when that song finishes you slid perfectly into the break up and emotion of I Hate U.

I think it the best song on TGE album, which is why I can't understand why he plays Shh live instaed of eye hate you.

Not that Shh is a bad song.

It has alot of emotion, love the guitar work at the end, I also like litening to the song loud, it seems that have a better effect.

I've got the maxi single which was released here in Australia, the remixes and the special instrumental are great.

First time I heard the whole song was at Paisley Park (got to go inside for the first time) over the P.A. before the Aug 5, 1995 show. This song is one of my all time favorites as well.

was a single and maxi-single in the U.S. debuted at #12, but had street date violations from the previous week. if not for that, it surely would have debuted in the top 10, extending his annual run by one more year.


it wasn't a hit at all, though, despite charting so high. little-to-no airplay, and it plummeted down the charts in the following weeks.

Canada understood it fine. It did well there. The rest of the world was still hung up on the name change. Pfft!

it would have hit the top 10 if it didnt lack in radio airplay...it hit #6 on the single sales chart but was like #46 on the airplay chart

This is the song that really got me into Prince. Sort of. I bought TGE to get this song. After hearing that album I got Chaos and Disorder and then started digging into the older P albums. The rest, as they say, is history.

Long before 'TGE' was released,I had a bootleg cassette featuring most of the songs that made the album.The songs were taped from various sources."Eye Hate U" was taped from a concert where it was apparently played over the loudspeakers.You can hear the audience commenting on the song.One guy with an accent says something like "This sounds like "Joy In Repetition",right?"

Yes, this song is what brought me back in the fold. The first time I heard it, it hit me HARD. I realized that I missed some great Prince music my time away (led astray by hip hop)
My favorite part is the end Prince whispering "I love U". Gosh I am not one to "swoon' over Prince but dayum, that sounded so personal... I can almost imagine him saying that to me.

I have bought TGE just to get a "legal" copy of this song. I hope the rest of the CD doesn;t disappoint me.

I too, love this song, I downloaded the Maxi-single off Kaaza and the file has wicked quality sound!! I never knew this song was about Carmen- alot of emotion in this song. Excellent "angry" guitar solo.....

Letitgo and I Hate U debuted high with a lot of steam at retail but could'nt get crossover play from mainstream radio....and this is when i think P was blackballed. The I Hate U cover had a pic of P with Slave on his face. Eversince then he could'nt get played at all. I don't care what kind of song he came out with! And it continues 2 this day.
