Pop Life by Elvis Costello Anyone heard this? Know anything about it?
It's a pretty fun, live version. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I heard it, but the quality is bad and not very revealing really about what his point of view on it really was.

Apparently he wanted to release it on his best of album, but Prince wouldn't allow it (badmouthed him in the past apparently)

He released a song called "The Bridge I Burned" instead, which seems to have some snippets of his version of pop life in it.

He sang it in concert when i saw him in 95, and it was great.
It would be worth releasing.

Elvis Costello has got one of the worst voices in popular music but his lyrics are genius.
His album with Burt Bacharach is never off my Winamp playlist - but that's probably because of Burt.

Elvis Costello is a great singer and an even better writer. If anyone here is a neophyte and needs proof buy the genius Rhino reissue of 'Get Happy'...it is full of 50 tracks you will be glad that you own.
As for 'Pop Life', haven't heard it but whoever it was that said Elvis wanted to release it but Prince wouldn't let him, that is absolutely false. The only way that is legally possible is if Elvis changed the lyrics. Otherwise, anyone can release any song they want whenever they want. That is why we have to endure things like Britney Spears covering Rolling Stones songs. If it were a matter of permission then a lot of covers would never have been recorded...Plus, considering Prince (my favorite artist ever) saw fit to write 'Slave' on his face, what makes you think he has any say in what happens to Pop Life? His publishing was with Warner Chappell for that song and depending on his deal with them he might not even be able to reject lyric changes.

Elvis Costello is right up there with Prince in my Top 3, and I'd encourage anyone who appreciates good music in general to go and get Costello's:
The Juliet Letters Enjoy!
