Damn, what a great interview.

Prince seems so likeable and charming in interviews these days...

But if The Kid were to censor these albums, I'd be PISSED. Leave those masterpieces alone, you should never change art.

Am I REALLY the first person to mention how gorgeous he looks in that pic? He looks almost angelic.

"I make all kinds of records," Prince said. "For this album, I didn't feel like making some grand statement. It ain't like me trying to pull the trigger back and annihilate something. I'm just chillin'."

Interesting quote about Musicology - given the recent discussions and opinions posted here, don't you think?

I guess the fact that it's a 20th anniversary edition of Purple Rain means they can't wait too long...

I'm hallucinating, but I'd like to see a 3-CD set. The first CD would be the original soundtrack, the second CD would be the B-sides and non-Prince soundtrack songs, and the third CD would be all the extended versions ("Computer Blue", "The Beautiful Ones") and the original First Avenue live takes of "I Would Die 4 U/Baby I'm A Star/Purple Rain".

He is now negotiating with Warner Brothers over the release of remastered versions of his old albums, including a 20th-anniversary edition of "Purple Rain."

Hell hath finally frozen over? shocked

Has Fred G. (and the G stands for GTFOOHWTS!!) Sanford finally found his heavenly home WITH Elizabeth?

Has NBC finally put an end to that grossly overrated "Friends" crap? woot!

Has Shaq gotten his lazy ass out of LA? zzz

Has my yammering for the first decade of Prince's catalog to be reissued in remaster form actually been heard? biggrin

Has the mainstream been yammering about Prince in the form of tv interviews, multiple mag covers, Grammy/RRHOF performances, songs from Musicology actually getting a weeee bit of airplay, etc.?

Has that led to negotiations with Warner Bros. because people have been buying his back catalog and they know they can sell more with remasters? You bet your everlovinass it does!

Don't rain on my parade. Do NOT rain on my parade. I will not hear of it! mad talk to the hand

lil sloppy there, NPG Records...what exactly was the last album credited to Paisley Park records?

The Hits / The B-Sides, released in 1993. I distinctly remember that the 3-CD set was released after The Hits 1 and The Hits 2 individual albums were released.

There may have been CD singles or other non-album releases on Paisley Park Records after The Hits / The B-Sides, but since you asked for the last "album," that's my answer. smile

The next album, Come, was released in 1994 after the demise of Paisley Park Records was announced. The only label credit on Come was for Warner Bros. Records.

(When I say "the next album," I'm intentionally ignoring The Beautiful Experience, credited to Bellmark and NPG Records. It seems to have been officially classified as an EP, and I actually think "maxi-single" is a more appropriate classification.)

Anyway, I agree that the article is a bit sloppy about (admittedly minor) facts. For instance, Paisley Park Studios originally had three studios, not two.

Amazon.com lists the same release date for all three, but I remember trying to buy the 3-CD set in September or October of 1993 and finding only The Hits 1 and The Hits 2 on store shelves. I did a little investigation (this was before I had Internet access, BTW) and found or was told that the 3-CD set had a later release date.

Did I have bad information? confuse

I don't know good information from bad information, but I know for sure that in Ohio the 3-disc Hits came out the very same day as the individual I and II discs.

If there is a god in heaven the remastered version of Controversy is going to look a little something like this:

1. Ronnie Talk To Russia (Album Version) 1:58
2. Ronnie Talk To Russia (Iggnant Mix) 21:34
3. Ronnie Talk To Russia (Triple Iggnance Mix Featuring Hulk Hogan) 30:54
~ I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR ~

Where does it say that?

Prince's new visibility is not exactly a comeback. He never stopped making albums or touring, but for years he left behind the star-making machinery of the major labels. His longtime contract with Warner Brothers Records turned sour in 1993 as he changed his name to an unpronounceable glyph and appeared with the word "Slave" written on his face. Albums credited to Prince, with songs from the Vault and titles like "Chaos and Disorder," continued to appear on Warner until the contract ran out, while albums credited to the glyph were released independently. He is now negotiating with Warner Brothers over the release of remastered versions of his old albums, including a 20th-anniversary edition of "Purple Rain."

...i ain't holdin my breath for it, tho'.

Yeah, I'd love it if it happened, but I dunno. I do know I don't like having to crank my old Prince albums up twice as high as newer ones to hear them good and loud!
