We don't all hate it - I for instance don't hate it, I just really, really dislike it intensely.

What's to like about it ? The acting is horrible, the plot is non-existent, it doesn't appear to have been directed in any particular direction, there are enough cringe-worthy moments to get a full house in cringe-bingo after 10 minutes, the lighting is horrible, it was all shot in a studio and looks as if it was shot in a fake studio. All in all, it just ended up being a collection of really expensive videos for songs that mostly weren't even released as singles.

And if all that isn't bad enough, as the supposed sequel to Purple Rain, it couldn't really have been more disappointing. But that's just me.

What did you like about it ?
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

well i haven't seen grafiti bridge but from what i've heard the music is good and the movie is bad just like purple rain...the actin sucks n purple rain just as u say it sux n gb. the lightin aint all that good..just like u say about gb. the only thing that pr has goin 4 it that u say gb doesn't is that pr had a plot.
Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...

lmao. the acting aint that bad! prince & morris hold it down, ingrid chavez was aight, the plot wasnt strong but morris and prince were beefing over the clubs god dammit!

name some of the cringe moments, cos i didnt find any of it like that. yeh the lighting was a bit shite. i thought the studio was aight, it wasnt supposed to look like a real place.

i thought it was good, after all, its not like PR is heralded as a great film in its own right either - music based films rarely are. dont read into too much, just kick back and enjoy, thats what i did.

I find myself unable to disagree with this, and yet, it seems wrong to agree with it! Purple Rain is a much better film than GB, but what makes it better ? Well, yeah, the plot (although, PR is slightly lacking in plot too) is better, but I guess it's down to 2 main things for me : 1. The music, although I like all the GB music I don't rate it as highly as PR. 2. The filming, Purple Rain actually looks like a film, and GB looks like they were trying to create a manga film but failed by putting real people in it.

I don't know where to begin with cringe moments, practically every line of the script is cringe-worthy. Off the top of my head, here's a few :
Prince's bad-boy howl, in Morris' place.
Every occurance of It's just around the fucking corner
The hangman scene. icky.
The entire Tick, tick, bang performance
"Be, be, be, be, be, baby!" Ugh.
Facepaint
The "I just kissed a man in the dark by mistake and now I'm going to throw up" scene - which could have been a classic Prince/Morris performance piece but was fucked up by lame scripting.
The scene in the Kid's club when only 4 people (or is it 5) are dancing. Not really that cringe-worthy, I just feel bad for the Kid that he couldn't manage to drag more than 4 (or 5) people in off the street to his club.
The knicker incident.
The ambulance scene (I particularly dislike the fact that the ambulance turns up before anyone called for for one)

I agree with your point about music based films - just enjoy, but I find that too difficult with GB. It's so fake looking that enjoyment is not an option. The only reason I've actually watched it more than once is for the music. As I don't get anything from it as a film, it is to me just a collection of videos, and as I'm such a fan of videos, I'll be concentrating on the CD version instead.
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

I agree it ain't his best body of work, but that can be said about a lot of recent stuff. However, I do remember seeing an interview with Morris and Jerome when Pandemonium came out where they said that Prince and The Time got together and GB was going to be a sequel but as a sequel revolving around the story of The Time. I reckon Prince probably hijacked it and we have the "masterpiece" we know love/hate.

falloff so did I, but I have forever been mentally unstable.
I've tried my best to cover it up, but then every now and then I lose control and break out into full-on dance and perform Round and Round in public, and I can't stop till I've finished the whole song.

It's.....horrible cry

smile Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this.

Although I am puzzled by the showdown of Shake! vs. Tick, Tick Bang. The choice of Tick, Tick Bang is intentionally bad to suggest a bad night for The Kid, and The Time winning hands down. But Shake! isn't much better either. I would've much rather seen Tick, Tick Bang vs. The Latest Fashion.

No, they disbanded long before this was made. The only PR era people in it are The Time/Jerome and Jill Jones. - I think, but given that it's a few years since I've watched it I can't be entirely sure. Also I'm not even sure this scene
The "I just kissed a man in the dark by mistake and now I'm going to throw up" scene - which could have been a classic Prince/Morris performance piece but was fucked up by lame scripting.
is actually in Graffiti Bridge, it may well have been Prince/Jerome in UTCM. Or was it ? Hmmmm.
The moral of this post is don't listen to a word I say about Graffiti Bridge. I clearly have no idea what I'm talking about. Oh dear, I hope this doesn't mean I'm going to persuade myself to watch it again.

The scenery was horrible, the acting was horrible, and the storyline was corny. The music was not the best either.

I love the movie. Ppl just often dont get it. Its not supposed to look like a real place which is the reason for the scenery. Its supposed to be a very spiritual move, the reason for the "right around the corner" line. The acting isnt that bad lol! I mean I really dont expect spectacular acting, but it wasnt terrible. Ive seen worse. I didnt think there were any cringe worthy moments. UTCM will always be my fave with PR second, but I still really like this movie!
Did you order a pizza ma'am? Prince- UTCM
