Prince albums Hey everyone... I'm a new Prince fan, and I was wondering what album any of the huge fans of Prince suggest I get next.
I've already bought: Diamonds & Pearls / The Very Best Of Prince / Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic / The Rainbow Children. A lot of people say you got to have Purple Rain or Sign O' The Times to be a true Prince fan. But I heard clips from songs off of "Emancipation," "The Vault," and "New Power Soul" and they sound pretty good. Thanx 4 the help, Mariah J. | |

My suggestion is to start from the start....get For You, then work your
way to the latest... I feel bad for new Prince fans because there is so much music, and so much money to invest... 
Oh, and don't forget the B-sides/Extended mixes of the 80's, those are a must... Erotic City, Girl, America, Love or $, Sexy Dancer 12", Let's Work 12", A Love Bizarre, I Wish U Heaven Pts 1,2,3, , 17 Days, Mountains 12", Kiss 12", etc. etc. etc. Then you have the related artists to get into: The Time, The Family, Mazarati, Jill Jones, Sheila E, Carmen Electra, Patti Labelle, Celine Dion, Martika, Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, Sheena Easton, Paula Abdul, The Bangles, George Clinton, Tevin Campbell, etc. etc. etc. He's written some great songs for those folks... Of your 4 prince cd's which do you like the most? Im envious because you get to discover all of his great music for the 1st time. Im a little newer fan than most, I became a dedicated fan in 1994. In that respect, im similar to you. my favorite albums are Purple Rain, The Gold Experience, 0+>, 1999, Sign of the Times, and Parade. Since your a newby, I bet youll love thr gold experience. Nice list! But really, the reason I suggested she start from the beginning is that you can see his songwriting evolution in process, grow with the artist so to speak. Also, all Prince albums have GREAT songs on them...even the most beleaguered Cd's have 2-3 worthwhile songs. I just happen to love them all! Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. When I started collecting all things, I was a bit thrown off by lovesexy and his 1st 4 albums. I think their all great now. I would like to know what all newbies think of The Rainbow Children because as a diehard I still cant get a good feel for this album. Obviously I think all of princes cd's should be bought, but i had to work my way backwords to get into everything. AAAAAHHH the memories. (Insert something clever here) |

Sign O`Times is considered as his masterpiece,gotta have this one.Though I wonder if U will love like I do,it because I have sooo many good memories of that period.
