WHO RECORDS BOOTLEGS AND HOW DO THEY DO IT?

Plz tell me, exactly how do these ppl get there recording devices in the show, operate it and leave without a hitch?
I've been to plenty of shows where they do not search. So I know it's easy to sneak something in. But what are they using because the quality on some of these boots are good! Are the devices big and bulky and do they set them somewhere so there is no added noise?
If there is anyone out there that can shed some light on this subject I would appreciate it.
