Purple Rain came out at the time when I really got into listening to the radio and made a Prince fan out of me with the single When Doves Cry...the rest, as they say, is history... "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

I just got this album the other day. I really disliked it at first; Prince's rapping sounded a little Rico Suave-ish at times and the Max souned a lot like a Backstreet Boys song. While I still think the Kirstie Alley segments are awful the album has really grown on me already and I actually think it's great now. my jams- www.soundclick.com/iantimothy

This is by far one of my top 3 favorite albums, and the one I probably listen to most. Just the other day, I again realized how fascinating "7" is and how I love how Prince over dubs his own vocals, especially athe capella intro. A masterpeice non the less...

Same here. Yeah, I'd have to say that's true for me too. The Gold Experience later solidified it for me, but the symbol album is where I realized what an astonishing artist I had discovered. It was the first P album I bought.

It was the first I'd paid attention to him in a long time. I remeber it quite clearly an album I liked a lot. I had also come into my adulthood. I'm in a minority, but it is one of my favorites and I don't know why. It is one of the few I have looked up in the Vault to see what the heck it's all about. The story behind the album is pretty interesting.
To me it is pretty prophetic as the next move we see is him changing his name to the title of the album. Christian Zombie Vampires

The songs are great, but they don't quite flow properly as an album IMHO. They worked fine in that order when the album had loads of segues inbetween every other track which kinda told a story (and seperated the songs from each other). But when the segues were removed it meant that some of the tracks just didn't sound right sitting right next to each other. eg, My Name Is Prince followed by Sexy MF. Both are great tracks, but because My Name Is Prince is so 'in your face' it makes Sexy MF sound 'weak' (lacking in muscle, not crap). I just think that once the segues had been dispensed with, he should have re-ordered some of the tracks. (oh, and I'm glad he did get rid of all those segues, they were OK as an idea, but that guy that did the narration had a really 'bored' voice... not voice over material) and then there's the school of thinking that if he left them in there, the album would have made more sense instead of confusing the critics and his audience. Though if he had left them in people would'a bitched about those more than it being confusing. sometimes the right ideas don't translate musically. Christian Zombie Vampires
