Usually, Prince performs "Purple Rain" as the final encore during his live concerts. Should he play "Gold" instead?

PR isn't the best encore I can think of for that matter.

"Purple Rain", of course. There's no question about it.

The song "Gold" isn't that good and the audience wouldn't know it and wouldn't respond to the cheesy lyrics.

Perhaps he should do a medley of both songs,
then he could call it "Golden Rain"

Gold hands down. I think gold was the best ending to date. Especially with the glitter and explosions. It really feels like a special event. . I love bothsongs , but Gold lifts the spirits more. PR seems a little sad, and a little over played now.

nah i think purple rain...cuz it has wayyy more of a climactic feel u kno? but what would b cool is 2 have purple xploisions bhind him u kno? and purple glitter..that would b hot!

I would love to see Prince play "Free" more as the final song. It's a beautiful song that kicks you in the ass. "Be glad for what you got!!!" I can't think of a better message to leave the audience with. Too bad it wasn't the final song on 1999.

Purple Rain is the greatest 8 minutes of studio music I've ever heard.

i think he should do both. they both fit the bill, but while Purple Rain leaves the audience generally in awe, it's also a bit of a downer. i think he should bust into Gold right after it just to lift people's spirits before they leave. even if most of them have never heard it.

He needs to leave us on a high note, not an old ballad. I miss the days when he would close with "Kiss" or "Alphabet St."

I'd love to hear Gold as a closer...it's uplifiting and positive, what a great note to end on. I guess some folks can't deal with the idea of anything other than PR as the closer, but it'd be cool to hear something else, at least once, just for the change of pace if nothing else.
