See what you're missing out on if you don't give The Rainbow Children a chance

The Rainbow Children doesn't say "By Prince", doesn't have a Prince photo on the cover and its release publicity was non-existent.

But it's Prince's most Princely and best album for years. Certainly his best album this side of 2000. Here's just a few whys:

- The Rainbow Children is a full virtuoso work out on the Strollin' sketch
- The Work has as much propelling energy as Le Grind
- 1+1+1 is 3 has an itchy guitar speediness that stands up to the Dirty Mind era
- The Everlasting Now has the same epic size and infectious surprises as Eye Know

OK, the rest of the album is not as good (and some parts downright embarrassing or annoying), but these highlights make it for me. I'm an atheist, so it's not the preaching that gets me.

My guess would be that Prince would be pleased with the success of Musicology but much more proud and pleased with The Rainbow Children. If it wasn't for this album, I would have given up on Prince's ability to put out another *great* album. Based on this, I think he still has it in him.

Tha's it?

Aw hell nah...

The Last December... that was ur new maybe even better "Positivity"

She Loves Me 4 Me is beautiful as well as "Sensual Everafter"

Digital garden, is sweet, and FAmily Name is quite good 2.

I seem like the only 1 on here who liikes "The Rainbow Children" song also.

but i find "Mellow" and "Muse 2 The Pharoah" kinda boring.
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Nah. You just haven't seen that OLD thread specifically about that song. Unfortunately the search engine neither searches, nor is it an engine.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Prince is on the cover of TRC, he's kind of hidden away, but he's there. Look closely...

THE RAINBOW CHILDREN was one his cds that I really wanted to have, when I first started listening to him last year. I bought it and I'm not sure what to think...

Is the whole album his creation of his own worded Bible. Is it big story? I kind of understood it at first, and then SHE LOVES ME 4 ME came out and also MELLOW came on and I didn't see how those songs came into the story.

I think if I was more into a mellow, jazzy kind of music, I'd find TRC absolutely brilliant.

I love the story told, I love the organic sound, I love the brilliant musicianship.

But those mellow sounds (sans The Work, which is just plain horseshit) on the first half of the album just bore me. It's just not the kind of genre I want from my Prince.

The second half is brilliance though. thumbs up!

3.5/5
