Rumor: Radio One says the new album is called Auto-Acoustic According to Housequake, Joe Whiley on Radio 1 mentioned the new acoustic album of reworked hits, and it's called Auto-Acoustic.
Let the rumors continue...

There may just be something credible to this after all. I'd rather hear something like this than just another BS hits package from WB, or really bad mixes of old stuff like "1999: The New Master" Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. seriously, if he did this and released and accoustic Little Red Corvette to radio, I betcha he could land himself a number 1 album... I would totally dig an accoustic reworking of old songs that was officially released. Many of the people I know who went to the Musicology show have asked if this type of thing exists and my bet is A LOT of people would buy it.

I suppose with the re-issues of P's movies (looks like October releases, according to play.com) and the 20 years of Purple Rain thing going on, it would make sense for Prince to release something like this. Not a hits collection as such, but a reminder of what he's about, now there's a little more interest in him (just like he does between 'Musicology' and 'Illusion, Coma, Pimp and Circumstance' on the latest CD).
Just a case of wait and see, I suppose... [It ain't 2009 edit] _____ [This message was edited Tue Jul 6 11:34:00 2004 by Haystack]

this would make for a cool little Target promo album, like what lenny's doing (and tina and U2 did it). i just don't see this as a "regular" release. i won't complain if it happens, believe me...i'm just not even thinkin' about holding my breath.

When he did the acoustic version on Musicology for MTV the people at work were amazed and even said that if he released anything like that they would definately buy it.
I think it would certainly boost Prince's popularity among the R+B and mainstream cultures. Read the Q magazine today and it certainly seems like it will happen http://www.myspace.com/savage1999uk
