I didn't have the Vault before I thought up the questions, and I don't think I looked up / checked any of the answers in Uptown publications:

If you give me the first half of question 1, you get half a mark.

I'll start giving clues as we progress, I'm sure.

Shelia E - Pride and the Passion

"He had big cash and a Brando smile"

God, what a way to spend my day at home sick!

I've got two of the people linked with Starsky and Hutch, but I'm struggling with the third...

You know, there's a phenomena when you try so hard to think of something and it won't come to you, and so you do something else. Then, out of nowhere comes the line "Is Hemingway dead?". A quick google to check that he actually won a Nobel Prize, and realisation that this line comes from the same song as my screen name eek Spooky!

The song? The Max! In my best Athur Aske, Ithankyou!

Ok, unless I get another brainwave, I will finally bow out of this quiz. Thanks for coming up with the best Prince quiz I've ever attampted! When's the next one?

Is this the photographer Joel Bernstein? At the end of DMSR Prince says 'The Infamous Joel Bernstein whats up?' Couldn't find any reference to him on the cover of Blue but he took the photos on Joni's 'Hejira' album hmmm Am I right? Do I get a prize? wink

Spot on

Prince mentions him, as you say, during the song.

Joel Bernstein was his sometime photographer

Prince (1988)

Prince (1988)

and sometime guitar technician (Lovesexy tour).

It's not clear in what capacity Prince was referring to him from the recording?

Amongst other things, he is a close friend of Joni Mitchell and apart from his photographic work for her, he also was responsible for the official transcription of the album, Blue, for guitar and dulcimer (I believe - but can't confirm - that his photography features in the music book but is not used on the album cover).

Bernstein also photographed Neil Young on the 'Harvest' album (Bernstein can be seen with camera reflected in the door knob reflection photo of Young).

Strangely, I've never seen much reference to his work with Prince, how he hooked up with him etc., but I suspect his intimate knowledge of the unusual guitar tunings used by Joni Mitchell would have been of interest to Prince.
