Perhaps I dislike Warner Bros because of their lack of back catalogue of Prince material... I have still to find Dirty Mind, Controversy, and For You on CD after looking for numerous years. I was just recently able to pick up ATWIAD on CD from a second hand store ... only took me 3 years to get it.

Coupled with the fact that all my Prince VCR tapes are worn out and have not been released on DVD as well. It is maddening to be a fan and have such a hard time getting material by the man.

Besides that whats there good to say about Warner Bros?
Fate is what u call it when u dont know the name of the person screwing u over

Wow. What area do you live in?

They signed a kid in his late teens named Prince, gave him something that wasn't commonly acquired by other teens, and what he desired most: creative control. They promoted him well, and allowed him to develop at a natural pace as an artist - something that isn't the norm today with a lot of major labels where you have maybe 2 albums at most to prove yourself commercially before you're dropped. The WB of the last 15 years....well, that's another ball of wax.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

That's thoroughly correct - certainly Warners deserves enormous credit for promoting and supporting Dirty Mind, which was the most risque album ever issued at that date. Their dedication to Prince is even more commendable when you consider that Prince was not commercially established at that point in his career.

I can't comment on how the changes in Warner's corporate structure affected Prince's relationship with the company, but I definitely think that the commercial decline that Prince suffered through post SOTT was due to poor decision-making committed by the artist, rather than any malice or incompetence on the part of the record company.

That's why in an earlier post I said we're not privy to the whole story. There were internal power struggles among some of the execs that had nothing to do with Prince's career at the time, and everything to do with Warner Brothers as a corporation. His problems became entangled in all of that (that being the changing of the guard - different head honchos). Years ago while it was going on it came out that it got so bad that a couple of those execs who worked there even got into a physical altercation because of it.

IMO many so called fans come to this site to "stir the pot".

If you like Prince you will say that WB was a company of assholes.

If you hate Prince you will say that Prince was at fault for his own demise.

MULE says both were at fault by what happened by being stubborn and greedy.
Mule says then and now that Prince's music ,while not being of the standard set in 1980-1988 was and still better than about 75-80 % of what is offered to the music buying public.

Mule says that one WB group offered Prince the greatest contract of all time and then another group said that they were NOT going to promote his music .

Mule says that many of you read Hahn's book and take it for the gospel, just as many purple hippies think Prince's ass smells like ice cream.

Thank you for your support !
