How is Dirty Mind? Is it good or bad?

I've been checking this one out a lot on www.amazon.com. It sounds pretty good. Overall, tracks 1-5 are amazing. I couldn't check out tracks 6-8 because they didn't have sound samples for them. All Music Guide called Dirty Mind, Prince's first masterpiece. So is it good or bad? What are your experiences of it. Is it worth buying because I'm a big Prince fan. Is it really true what they say about it?

Head made the whole album worth it for me. When prince talks about pushing the envelope off the table, this is the album that started all that.

I love the album.

Wait 'til Dansa gets a hold of this thread...

"Dirty Mind" is undenaibly Prince's most incredible early album (i.e. of the first four). This is just raw, homemade funk...dirty, smooth, cool and classic. Buy it.

(BTW, you can buy the album from the iTunes Music Store for $7.92.)

Party Up, Head, Uptown, When U Were Mine - ALL timeless mothafuckin songs. I'd say this is my third favorite Prince album, behind Sign and Rain. (yeah, sellout, I know).

It's incredible.

It's oddly romantic, totally horny, rebellious, and just plain DIRTY.

This is why most rooms have four walls --

One for "Head."
One for "Partyup."
One for "When You Were Mine."
And a fourth just for the album cover alone.

Do It All Night is one of my top ten fave Prince tracks. It's never talked about but it's a classic.

The only track which I think is a little bit off is "Sister".... it still makes me feel uncomfortable..... but hey I guess that means it's successful in its artistic intention.

the album obliterates our normal conception of good vs. bad. to call it good doesn't do it justice -- it's so far beyond "good." to say anymore is just plain blather. listen. you'll be set. think you won't?

i don't really care about this "you ain't a fan if you don't have it"-stuff, all's i know is that dm is one of the bare essentials in one's prince collection.

that, and if someone hasn't heard it or they don't have a copy, they're gettin a cyber chin-check from me. boxing
