My favorite Prince album volleys between "SOTT" and "Lovesexy". I think the experimental aspects of The Black Album were carried over to Lovesexy, but the silliness and lack of vision that seemed to drag down The Black Album fell to the wayside with Lovesexy. I just think it's a great album. From the "Eye No" all the way to "Positivity", I see no false step here. It works so well as a whole (which is good because I don't have a 'tracked' version). "Anna Stesia" is classic Prince and "I Wish U Heaven" is a beautiful song. I think "Alphabet Street" is on his strongest singles to date.
TRC has some great music, great lyrics ("Last December"), but I think the segues and down right ridiculous spots make it a weaker offering. Here's my view...
'Lovesexy' is a masterpiece,a true classic. It will take me a little longer to determine if 'TRC' is a classic.I like much of it,but I'm not sure if I'm ready to consider it a "classic" just yet. | |
