The essay is very well written and I think that pretty much everyone here can relate, including u fiveorange! What gives you the right to pass judgement when you are here posting and responding just like the rest of us??

Get a clue

Smooches;)

Because I am a Prince fan that is down for him regardless of his Billboard chart status. And I would NEVER relegate his importance to the '80s.

THAT'S WHY.

Apparently the people on this board don't understand how much misunderstanding there is about this man. If I tell the average idiot that I bought anything after Sign of The Times they tell me things like "He's weird" or "That music had a cult appeal."

Yes those of us on the board can contextualize things but the average fool will read this article and be supported in the idea that Prince only mattered in the '80s and only matters now because the maching is backing him.

COMPRENDE???

Dude, relax a bit. It is not a comeback lie. Prince has been absent from the scene to most people, and for them him being in the spotlight again is a comeback, regardless of whether he has been releasing records and touring again and again.

And of course the media shapes the attention of the masses, and of course not all journalists are always experts in the field they write about. What else is new? Why get upset about that? And why should you care whether Prince is appreciated for his 80s successes or for his lifetime ouvre. I am not - I am happy Prince is appreciated - full stop. Be it shallowly or expertly...

And what do you mean "ride with him and die with him". You bloodbrothers, or what? What nonsense IMO.

Or - maybe you are Prince's PR manager and realise you did such a whacko job 96-2003... lol

I can't believe this a board of so-called Prince fans defending BS. "Ride or Die" means always down for whatever it is you are supporting REGARDLESS of Billboard recognition.

I'm glad you think I'm his PR manager although I am not. I don't think they did a "whacko" job. It's just that capitalism does not support creativity because its promotes a customer service approach to creativity. That's why he called himself the Artist. He lost popularity because he's a Black man doing a wide variety of styles and he won't kowtow to the forever game of payola.

Let me ask you this how come we can't hear "Endorphin Machine" on the same station as Ozzy Osbourne?????

Why am I upset??? Because I see too many parellells among Prince, Jimi, Little Richard, Ike Turner, Chuck Berry, Louie Jordan, Bo Diddley, Wynonie Harris and the list goes on.

If we lived in a fair world stuff like this really wouldn't matter. But I am TIRED of Black geniuses having to die before their work is looked at "objectively." And then it only becomes relevant because some young white boys say so.

SAVE THE HUMANS.

Hmmmm - and I thought black musicians rulled the radio over there in the States, and saleswise as well... At least that's the impression you get from looking at the charts... And hey, didn't Outcast sell over 8 mio records - and they are alive and recognised...

And - I thought Prince is getting quite a lot of attention at the moment, no overlooking there either...

And - don't you ever dare doubting that I am a Prince fan, my brother....

This was a lovely story, typical of MANY fams . .I'm sure.

I too feel like there was a split second of recognition during one of his concerts, but it wasn't in the same way. We were relatively close to the stage, but I still had a pair of binaculars. I could SWEAR he looked right at ME with a look like. . "Come on!!??? Binaculars????"rolleyes I felt stupid for a moment, but only for a moment! I don't care!! As close as I was. . I wanted to FEEL like I was ON that stage.

I have always felt that Prince is a good friend that has always been there for me no matter what is going on in my life. It's nice to know that I am not alone in feeling this.
