SLEEP AROUND

If only this was an official single off EMANCIPATION! eye think it would have caught on like A WILD FIRE.

AGREE or DISAGREE? campfire

well since emancipation was like my first real prince album, it has a special place in my heart. i know every song off of all 3 cd's very well and sleep around was one of those songs on CD 3 that i listened to all the time. For a 13 year old it was really catchy, i listen to it now, and i really don't feel it as much...but still its not a bad song.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I think the performance of this joint on Oprah was better publicity than releasing it as a single

Would have made a superb single.

Perfect for it's time.

But hey, why release that when you could release a dull, lifeless rendition of Betcha By Golly Wow?

Agree. But Prince has always been pants at choosing singles.

I agree. I have burned several cds of various artists for my friends and I always include "Sleep Around" in the mix. It has garnered a "Damn, I love that song!" every time.

"I'm the one who sent the herbs..."

You gotta love it.

Agreed. I love Speep Around...the horns are really great. There were singles screaming all over that thing. When I heard the single choice, I was WTF? Then again I think this is one of the reasons I lose my interest every so often...either a bad single choice or no single choice (at least none that were being pushed by the WB)...unfortuneately this has been almost the norm since Lovesexy...though nothing turned me off during that album..not even glam slam.

Sleep Around, The Love We Make, My Computer... all had the potential to do good business.

This should have been the first single, instead of that sappy Stylistics cover.

I dig a lot of songs from Emancipation, but I don't think "Sleep Around" would have been a hit in the U.S. Radio would have ignored it like the plague. The lyrics are great, though.

I think so. It would've made a change from all the slushy ballads he was releasing at the time. It's got a good hook and I think it would've done well on radio. There weren't many obvious singles on Emancipation but that was one of them.

Nobody's saying that you have to agree with me. wink

Baby let me read her journal
Or should I say she turned around and it was gone
The inuendo reads eternal, or should I say
Every other page I'm on!!

cool

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I love this song as well
I think it would have been a good single cause the 2 he released were both
kinda overly sweet and soft ya know what I mean (BetchaBy Golly Wow and the Holy River)
If you will, so will I
