Mariah wet JJ in Prince's recording studio

Mariah Carey, along with bodyguard Michael Richardson, arrived in Minneapolis today.

Sources suspect that the songstress is in town to meet with the renowned producing team James "Jimmy Jam" Harris and Terry Lewis, who are known most specifically for their work with fellow diva Janet Jackson. Carey has been busy in the recent weeks working on her next studio album and although she's not recording yet, she has been doing hours of planning, as well as considering choices for co-producers and co-writers.

Rumor has it that Mariah may be recruiting PRINCE, Jermaine Dupri, Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs and others for her upcoming project.

However, this isn't the first time Carey has worked with Jam and Lewis. In fact, they have been apart of the troubled star's past two studio albums and are responsible for Carey's fifteenth #1 single, the 2000 hit "Thank God I Found You," a collaboration with R&B singer Joe and pop group 98 Degrees - and of course, Mariah herself.

Carey will return to her Manhattan apartment on March 2nd. Meanwhile, she is currently situated at the demur Grand Hotel.

{{{Jimmy Jam: she's here in Minneapolis to record at Prince's recording studio. She's recording some time tonight either before or after she checks into the hotel and tomorrow as well."
}}}

johnny, paisley park is an industry studio, people who are in the industry have access to it. It basically is run by a group of people. In other words, its not prince's personal and only studio somtimes when he records at the record plant in LA IS because all the time is booked up by other artists. Just another business venture.

Hold On.....

Ok, so you're telling me that Prince doesn't own Paisley Park studio? Everything I've read and seen suggests he does. And if he does, how is it an industry studio? Who paid for the renovations and stuff? Do you mean to tell me that if I had the $$$, I could record in PP, no questions asked?

Are you sure?

I heard that the PRINCE's tracks titles are 'Strong term' 'Cream Caramal Cafe' 'Funky motel night' and 'Huh?'. These songs should've been appeared in Glitter but sadly the LP was already mastered SOOoo lets hope she will include it in her next LP. From what I read last year that she's been in & out Minneapolis and that she met the man couple o' times there. Hookin up wet P was JJ's idea, they wanted him(P) to write a score for her BUT that also didn't happend. I heard that Prince is digging Mariah's musical style, is that true??? Yeah will, I wouldn't blame the nigga coz this sistah is fine is wine, not to mention her voice is DOPE. I really hope that she could fix her tired ass image, get some creative director and some GOOD producers like: D'Angelo, Lauryn Hill, Flyte Time, Andre Harris and our Man. The sistah got mad skills, she only needs the right ppl who could showcase her skills/image.

Way to go Mariah and do yo thang sistah gurrlll,,,,smile biggrin wink

I heard that when Mariah had her breakdown, one of the few persons she heard from was Prince who told her that he would be there for her.

You know, I may be in the minority here, but I like Mariah Carey. She's seems to be cool just to hang around with, and has a great voice. I am very glad that she and Prince are friends.

He's sweet to be there and help her out after her breakdown.

It would be great if she showed up at the Celebration for a performance.

Some of you folks really might want to consider checking out the Glitter album. There really is some good music on this album, not everything, but some of it is among Mariah's best. And at least 2 of the songs seems directly inspired from the early 80s Minneapolis sound. This is probably why Prince would be digging her style lately. A couple of her songs are funky, at least!

Prince owns Paisley Park (at least I'm 99% sure about it). When someone is recording there than it is because they asked/booked. But it's his. And as far as I know, there's always one studio free for him.

Yep, but you gotta know the right people thats the key.
He OWNS it but just like a guy OWNS The record plant or whatever. In other words its not his private secluded "just me" studio. Plenty of acts have recorded there, Even some foley stuff, and post production.

Wot iz this???!

Why is every1 so happy that the man's down w/ Mariah???

Has his taste deteriorated THAT much? (i don't care if there were a couple of interesting songs on her last album).

I mean, at least Sheena Easton was an interesting rediscovery/reinvention with cute nostalgia value.

I'm lost in the wilderness...

PS Is Britney's "Slave 4 U" meant 2 b a P tribute?

PPS Has any1 ever noticed that there's a riff in that Foo Fighters song "I got your back" which sounds like it's ripped off the song "Graffiti Bridge"?

AGREE with ya jtgillia about Ms. Mariah...

unfortunately, i think she turned off too many in the past with her earlier "pop" stuff in the 90s...

for real though, she's been dropping some funky tracks recently that havent been released as singles (blame label politics)... so, again, here are some r&b gems carey has dropped for those with open minds/mp3s...

"4th of july"
"underneath the stars"
"crybaby" (w/snoop)
"the roof"
"breakdown" (w/bone thugs)
"all my life"
"i didnt mean to turn you on"
"want you"

Prince owns the Studio. He pays taxes on it, he makes money from it. He recently re-upped everything to DDD and it looks like it's open again to the right people.

Talking of Jimmy Jam, anyone ever noticed that the drum beat/pattern of Electric Chair from the Batman album is almost if not identical to The Pleasure Principal track on Janet Jackson's Control album? Especially at that bit where it disappears then comes back, that happens on both. I wonder who was nicking from who?

Well, considering Control came out in 1986, and Batman came out in 1989...

Ah, but Jam and Lewis used to work for Prince via the Time, so maybe he had the drumbeat lying around back then and they stole it when they left acrimoniously?!

Probably not, to be honest...

To all whose digging Mariah:THANK YA'LL This sister is bad, she can make you slap yo mama(Well, not literally, my mother would tear my behind up!!!...lol biggrin) ONLY if she fix her tired ass image.

I thought I was the only fan around here. I think her best baddest and the phatest LP is 'Butterfly' yeah man this LP is da shit, you can't skip any track while listening to it,,Oh yeah the fuck what some o' ya'll say her version of TBO wet Dru Hill is DOPE, its even more soulfull than the P version.

At least she get the creative RESPECT not those wannabes Christina, J.LOW LOW AND oh yeah remember Debbie Gibson?? Where is she now?? Exactly, so to Britney's fan I hope you stick wet this bubbly bitch after 12 yrs from now. If you're going to praise one of dem white chics then you should start wet PINK coz this girl is baaaadddd and she's of da chain, she's the most soulfull white woman since Teena Marie, just give her a time and she will spank Bitchney, christina, J.HO.

I'm really happy for sistah girl and I hope(No I REEEAALLY hope) she work wet my man. She gave this fucked up music biz 12 yrs from her life and she opened the door for many young divas like Aaliyah(RIP), Christina, Mya and etc and I really to see her make it thro this ruff time.
