I'm amazed that so many people thought it was good. I thought it sucked.

I agree, this was straight up VEGAS. It's not just Beyoncé either. Everything about this was just bad. I couldn't even hear wtf he was singing. He should stop trying to impress and just let it flow. I haven't been into Prince for over a year now, not even played any of his old stuff, but if this is what his performances are like nowadays I haven't been missing a thing. The band didn't impress me either. Everytime I think he can't sink any lower he surprises me by doing something even worse than the last time.

People were hoping this would mean Prince would be "back", well I can say for sure that after last night I truly believe chances are bigger Jesus will come back this year than Prince.

Dude put the crack pipe down. The Grammies are Vegas. People get on the Grammies to sell records and get exposure. If you have not seen this band live you need to check them out before you say they suck. These guys rock. You cannot judge a band or a performer from a 5 min performance. Prince used the little time that he had and he used it well. He is on the front of all of the papers today and getting raves.

Bzzzt...never said the band sucked, just said they didn't impress me and I have heard them on that overrated ONA tour.

What others think of Prince's music doesn't mean shit to me. There's plenty of stuff he has done which others thought was shit, but I still love it and that's what counts. Are you one of those people pointing out raving reviews, but when they're critical you write journalists off as no talent losers? Why do you care what I think? Do you enjoy his music more or less depending on other people's opinions? I sure hope not...

Well, the haters are in the minority on this one.
Prince and Beyonce (especially Prince) were fabulous.
It was so fun today to go to work and listen to everyone talking about Prince and how great he looked. Usually, I'm the only one talking about Prince.

That's so sad...

And I still stick with my belief that I'm a Prince fan/fam of my own will No one is holding me at gun point to stay so if Prince doesn't bring you the happiness it once did you should find out why and fix it privately and not voice that opinion as if it's other's as well.

Ditto!

THANK U THANK U THANK U... I thought I was the ONLY one who saw that Prince and Beyonce did NOT flow very well together!
She is a pretty women, yes, and OH MY Prince looked SO hot.. but they just had NO match. Even her clothes looked dumb up agaisnt Princes Hot Purple and Gold.. Why was she wearing PINK? Should of been purple or gold...
He DID NOT need her up there. To me it was like "Well ok Prince, we will let you perform, but you are not a big enough star, so we are going to stick this EYE CANDY up on stage with you".. She did her own thing later in the show.. why couldn't HE have his own time!?
And it was a dumb choice of songs.. it was NOT a duet.. it was some Prince songs with her thrown in.. Not very cool.
Everyone said this was going to be such an eye catching hot peformance.. sorry, I DO NOT agree...
Prince is awesome.. he doesn't need the flavor of the time with him... He can do it all on his own!

WHAT ? "They had no match" ???
R u crazy?

And why should she wear something purple or gold , when she is looking so motherf... hot wearing PINK ??

This was a good move by Prince. For the past few years he's been adding to his rep as a serious musician. He has the respect of knowledgeable fans. However, it's the younger children and casual music listeners who didn't know who he is. A performance like this was perfect. It was a big, fun production-- a good PR move (pun intended blackeye )

Having said that, it didn't do much for me other than giving me the chance to see P perform for a brief minute. The White Stripes were much better in my opinion though I don't know if I would be able to stand an entire concert like that. I guess I have some digging to do to see what other songs and types of music they're making.

Just a quick responce: Beyonce' has a nice voice, but it's no Chaka Khan, Rosie Gaines, or Whitney Houston. And as far as Prince's guitar playing is deserved, he can whip somebody's ass with his guitar especially that one that he's had for over 20 years. So forget the White Stripes, Jack whatever his name is. Prince is bad on the piano and the guitar and there ain't nothin' about his guitar playing he needs to change.

I´m going 2 the shows since 1987 and ONA is anything else than overrated! The same goes for the band in my oppinion - its simply the best band he had in years (Thats what only i am thinking of course - but i know a lot of people, who feel the same..)

I had the same reaction as the haters on this one...Until I hit rewind and looked at it again. She's hot, he's hot, not a big jump for them to be hot at the same time and they did it without all the bumping and grinding like u-no-who. They both had technical problems too which they had to push through. (damn CBS let the interns run the audio)

Although, as someone said, she doesn't have the chops of Whitney, Rosie or Christina for that matter, she definitely had the energy and enthusiasm. I mean she was down to the floor just like him. Saying she has no voice at all is obviously an exaggeration for someone walking off with the most Grammys but judging by her solo song she just is lacking maturity and control. She has a voice, she just doesn't always know what to do with it. She does need to learn how to hold a microphone for a brotha though.

The whole show was about mixing the old with the new. Sting and Sean Paul? I thought it sucked too at first but then I looked and listened again and it was brilliant. Roxanne is even older than Purple Rain!
When it comes to funk, i am junkie

Photos are fantastic!

I thought the Grammy performance was good - I loved seeing P on tv again - seems like it's been a while. I realize it's the anniversary of Purple Rain, but I couldn't help but feel a little sad at the song selections. Those of us who are true fans know that Purple Rain is just a blip on the radar screen of his amazing talents and abilities as a performer and artist. I know his fan base grew tremendously with Purple Rain, but my God, there's so much more to him!!

His band now is incredible...not only are they great musicians, but they have voices! True talent.

He definitely rocked the HOB Vegas. If I still get a chill up my spine when I see and hear him, that's enough for me!
I'm going 2 another life - how 'bout u??

I have just been so in love with the performance all week long that I have to respond again. I think both have excellent chemistry together and even though Beyonce isn't on the top of my list I would rather see her up there than some of the other so-called acts that are out here today. As I look at the way Beyonce danced, she was dancing like Tina Turner, but she also made me think she was trying to dance like Prince's old dancer Cat (who was brilliant). She may not even know or remember who Cat was, but that's who she was dancing or copying like to me. As far as whoever that was that said Jesus will make a comeback before Prince will. Jesus is coming back anyway. Prince ain't got nothing to do with it, so you didn't even have to go there with that. Prince I love you baby! I'm glad you did that performance and I want you to do more of your classics. I'm sure your new music is great and I would like to hear that, but I want to hear more of the old than the new. Lastly, you did NOT destroy the memories of Purple Rain like somebody else said, you bought them back. You showed that 20 years later you are still the bomb and not some freak pedophile whose allegations and eccentric behavior has overshadowed his talent.

While I agree that she is talent and beautiful, I just wanted to see Prince perform. I mean, it would not have upset me so much if she would have toned down her voice a little. I realize that she is capable and all, but DAMN! I couldn't even hear the man... I enjoyed it and I do agree that it was a good move for him. Perhaps I am just being a little snot about the whole thing. Lemme say it again, I WISH SHE WERE NOT SO DAMN LOUD! She should have been an enhancement to his music, not try to be the show. Just my opinion.

I couldn't agree more.

Right, i felt the same way...but more stronger. It has been a decade since ive seen prince and i was soo beside myself with excitement to see prince perform his CLASSIC purple rain, so when madame B sashayed her way onto stage and tried to out-perform him i couldnt help feeling irritated. Why? not because im a 'hater' but because i have seen her EVERYWHERE since for almost the past decade especially this year. We Know shes preety and can sing, but could we enjoy SOMEONE ELSE who is more of a ledgend for at least five minutes? I didnt see why i had to try and get past her hair to concerntrate on PRINCE who was supposed to be the star of HIS song. Luckily, she couldnt and didnt steal his show because of WHO PRINCE IS, but all the same it all unecessary.

I understand why Prince did what he did, but I'd rather support him as an independent, creative and free-thinking artist. If he feels the need to do certain things to pick up new fans, or remind the masses of his musical history, fine. As long as he's happy, it doesn't really matter.

I personally do not like Beyonce, and her little Tina Turner impression, singing his songs, just struck a nerve. Like listening to someone scratching a chalkboard. I know very few people will agree with me, but I did not feel any chemistry between them and she brought the performance down. It was as bad as watching Britney Spears perform with Michael Jackson... it just didn't work.

As far as why I am not a big Prince fan as I used to be... well you know that story. We'd have to start another topic for all that. But you might want to search YOURSELF as to why you think everything he does is golden, worthy of you worshipping the ground he walks on.

Anyone who truly knows me would find that "everything he does is golden/worshiping the ground he walks on" hilarious. I'm so not that person. But I'm also not the kind of person who takes what Prince has going on in his life personal like he needs to clear what he's got going on with me first. I'm also sticking with my opinion that Beyonce' and Prince were great together and they played off each other very well. And I still stick with my belief that I'm a Prince fan/fam of my own will No one is holding me at gun point to stay so if Prince doesn't bring you the happiness it once did you should find out why and fix it privately and not voice that opinion as if it's other's as well.

YES! EXACTLY! Prince and beyonce is like Micheal Jackson and Britney Spears...one must ask themselves, why is this happening? Exept that this is worse..because Prince has not currupted his godlike image like how MJ has tarnished his...
