I cant believe i missed half the set...i went outside for a smoke just before the show started thinking i'm gonna sit right thru the whole show until Prince is on...I came inside turned on the TV & there he was just finishing off Purple Rain & just before that HO Beyonce showed up...I was that pissed off I really missed the groove of the whole performance...needless to say I hope i get a chance to see the show again if they replay it on MTV (i hope) he tore the place up...but please dont insult the man by suggesting that he needs the commercial pull of a current artist like Beyonce...the man is a legend...give him the stage & leave the window dressing for the Christmas store displays...dont get me wrong Beyonce is damn fine...but get her off the stage when the master is preaching...

Hey, I missed the House of Blues concert too. Any idea when he will be back in or around LA anytime? When and where does Prince plan on touring? Please let me know anything. Thanks!

I thought that it was a great performance and that doing Prince music helped Beyonce as well as Prince. Let's face it, Beyonce has a very powerful voice that is lost in really bad music and although I love Prince's music, only the fans that stuck around after Warner Bro's have really heard it. The one thing that W.B. gave him that he doesn't have now is more exposure because he is probably richer now that he was then. I hope that the next album is vocal and released for all to hear how talented he is..., cuz I like Outcast, Jay Z., and nameless other rappers and pop acts, but they are not musicians!

Actually, Andre 3000 from OutKast is suprisingly a good musician and writer (plays piano and guitar). But then, look at who his biggest influence is? hmm

It was cool to see Prince do his thing. Beyonce was a nice touch also, however, imagine if it were Christina with him. She has the best pipes of any female singer out there right now. What did he say at the end of the performance? I couldn't understand. Also, why the FUNK didn't he participate in the tribute?

They both said, "Don't hate us cause we're fabulous!!!"

Are you serious? You really think the Grammy's would have opened the show with some instrumental jazz? That would've been great for the 50 folks who bought and liked NEWS. Everyone else in the world would've said "What the f*ck?"

All I can say is...Prince and Beyonce were amazing! He kicked ass. He looked great (as usual), his voice was great (as usual) and Beyonce looked fabulous and she did a great job of singing with him! What a way to start the show! Because of this performance, I was able to sit back and enjoy the rest of the show. This was the smartest thing Prince has done for publicity in years! Prince rocks!!

The camera was only on that particular guitarist for a brief second, but i could have sworn she had blonde hair and was white. That's what made me think (hope...pray...) that it was Wendy. Couldn't really tell, though.

From Kurt Loder..

"And then there was Prince. Prince opened the show because, even though his current music gets very little airplay, he remains a major, and highly influential, American artist. He's a flawlessly stylish performer and, as perhaps you noticed, a really ripping guitarist. Bringing Beyoncé on for a little mini-medley was a shrewd move, Grammy-wise — it added some up-to-the-minute heat. But Prince himself is a house afire whenever he steps onto a stage — no help needed, thanks — and we really must see more of him. Much more. Will somebody please do something about this?"

IN MY OPINION, NOT THAT IT COUNTS MUCH, BUT THIS WAS ONE OF THE WORST PERFORMANCES THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN. THE PERFORMANCE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A TRIBUTE TO PURPLE RAIN AND PRINCE, NOT THAT GIRL. I WAS LOOKING SO FOWARD TO THIS AND GOT CHILLS WHEN HE CAME ON STAGE, BUT AS SOON AS SHE STEPPED FOOT ON STAGE, I TURNED IT OFF. WHO'S IDEA WAS THIS? WAS SHE EVEN BORN WHEN PURPLE RAIN CAME OUT? I HAVE SEEN PRINCE IN CONCERT OVER 50 TIMES AND HAVE ENJOYED EACH AND EVERYONE OF THEM WITH THE UPMOST EXCITEMENT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT AS USUAL, SHE TRIED TO OUT STAGE HIM JUST AS SHE DOES TO THE GIRLS IN DESTINY'S CHILD AND THAT MESS OF HAIR GOT IN THE WAY. DID SHE EVEN HIT ONE NOTE OR CARRY A TUNE? DOUBT IT!!! SURE SHE IS CUTE, BUT DAMN, SHE IS HAS NO TALENT. PRINCE IS PRINCE AND ONE OF THE GREATEST TALENTS THAT HAS EVER WALKED THE FACE OF THE EARTH. HE DID NOT NEED HER TO TRY AND APPEAL TO A YOUNGER CROWD. YOU EITHER LOVE OR HATE HIM. AND I'VE LOVED HIM SINCE DAY ONE.

THANK U THANK U THANK U... I thought I was the ONLY one who saw that Prince and Beyonce did NOT flow very well together!
She is a pretty women, yes, and OH MY Prince looked SO hot.. but they just had NO match. Even her clothes looked dumb up agaisnt Princes Hot Purple and Gold.. Why was she wearing PINK? Should of been purple or gold...
He DID NOT need her up there. To me it was like "Well ok Prince, we will let you perform, but you are not a big enough star, so we are going to stick this EYE CANDY up on stage with you".. She did her own thing later in the show.. why couldn't HE have his own time!?
And it was a dumb choice of songs.. it was NOT a duet.. it was some Prince songs with her thrown in.. Not very cool.
Everyone said this was going to be such an eye catching hot peformance.. sorry, I DO NOT agree...
Prince is awesome.. he doesn't need the flavor of the time with him... He can do it all on his own!

I agree, this was straight up VEGAS. It's not just Beyoncé either. Everything about this was just bad. I couldn't even hear wtf he was singing. He should stop trying to impress and just let it flow. I haven't been into Prince for over a year now, not even played any of his old stuff, but if this is what his performances are like nowadays I haven't been missing a thing. The band didn't impress me either. Everytime I think he can't sink any lower he surprises me by doing something even worse than the last time.

People were hoping this would mean Prince would be "back", well I can say for sure that after last night I truly believe chances are bigger Jesus will come back this year than Prince.

I don't think he should have opened the Grammies. I think he would have been great in the funk segment, or they could have put him in later doing his own thing. I mean, it was fine for what it was, but anybody who saw the ONA tour knows that he can do better than a rehashed medley of PR stuff.

Like it or don't, Prince completely desecrated the memories, of such a fine era as Purple Rain. Beyonce is such a talentless hag, she had no reason being near the same stage as him. Together they made Prince look more stupid than he ever could by rehashing these PRECIOUS songs from that era. I am losing more and more respect for him as an artist everyday, and tonight he lowered his own standards by putting on such an pathetic display. He embarrased himself, his band and his fams, by this.

It may make you mad, or sad, but it is the truth.

Peace and I'm out.

Don't confuse YOUR truth with the truth of all of us. If Prince hasn't "descrated" the memories of Purple Rain since then with the name change and the slave period this won't do it. Beyonce a talentless hag?? Pretty harsh words and it sounds like you took this very personal which is too bad for you. Prince looked BRILLIANT last night and he's got a major buzz going in the industry right now. So as your respect declines, Prince is doing nothing more than preserving the legend of Prince by reminding the masses what made us love him to begin with. I don't mind people's opinions but don't speak for the lot of us. I couldn't be anymore proud of him right now for doing the show to begin with. A true Prince fan or fam is never embarrased by a performance where Prince looks so damn happy, you may need to search YOURSELF for why you're even a Prince fan anymore.

I agree wholeheartedly that he can do much better than this performance, but I think this was more of a strategic career move than it was a crafted performance. It worked, since all the press is talking about it! (Prince is on the FRONT PAGE of the Houston Chronicle today with Beyonce. Didn't think I'd ever see that happen!)

I was wondering the same thing! If it was Rhonda, someone sure did a good job making her look like Wendy.
