Here is my opinion on this story. First of all the bodyguard did exactly what he is paid to do. God forbid if this person was one of these wacko's and did something crazy to put either Prince or his people in danger. Just say if something bad would have happened, then everyone would be saying where was his bodyguard, and why did he let this man get so close to him.I know that in a perfect world we should not have to worry about these type of things , but we all know what kind of world we live in. It's better to be safe than sorry. His bodyguard would not have taken my camera from me because if I wanted to take a picture of prince or anyone else for that matter, I would have asked first just out of respect. Most people walk around with the attitude that they can do whatever they want to do ,with no reguard for the other person. It only takes a second to ask..

Bull I totally agree. BODY GUARD means just that. Protect your employers Body or person. The dude was on the J.O.B.! Snap a picture of Prince? Bet you know better now, don't you camera boy! Have you ever heard of the word "ASK"? You should know, if you still don't, "ASK" somebody. And while you're at it, ask your mama to buy you another camera dunce

If Prince is standing in the middle of an airport with thousands of people walking by, then thousands of people can see the same thing that kid snapped. He is in plain view. There is no threat to him or invasion of his privacy due to someone taking a snapshot of him.

The kid didn't have to ask to take the pic.The body guard(s) can certainly stand in the way and block pictures, but they have no right to confiscate people's cameras in a situation like that.

He had every right to take that pic. Prince was in a public place in plain view.

He should contact Prince's camp and request they return his camera, otherwise file a lawsuit.

He should have asked if he could take a picture first. I'm sure things happen like this a lot to stars and I'm quite certain it can get annoying.

BUT with that said, they shouldn't have taken the camera. It would have been a scuffle at that airport if they would have tried to take my camera.

For good will, Prince should return the camera, or buy a new one if they threw it away.

I have been coming to this sight for a while ,and it amazes me that about 90% of the times its the same people that have something negative to say, either about princes actions or his music. Which leads me to the following question, why do you even bother coming to this sight and posting comments if prince is such an idiot or his music is so bad? I may not like everything that he puts out but the name calling is so 17ish. Why not go to the sight of someone that you likr listening to? Remember in order to get respect you must first give it. Everyone have a great new year.

Horseshit.

The law is the law. There was no harassment or invasion of personal space, just a photograph.

This was a public place, not a concert hall or a private home.

The security guard needs to be reprimanded and learn the CORRECT way to deal with the situation. Assault and Robbery is NOT the way to deal with this.

If it eases your mind, this discussion didn't even exist until after some in prince's camp was rude to a fan.

happy new year.

I agree. However, the bodyguard went overboard. He should have just erased the image and then returned the camera. Something's wrong with that boy though-- to just take Prince's picture without asking. I can see why Prince has bodyguards and is aloof around his so-called fans.

Prince should be happy that anyone would even want to take a picture of his loser has-been ass. Somebody should tell Prince that 1984 was a looong time ago.

derek

If I was the kid I would not have the let Trevor take my cam. The most I would've done is erase the pic in front of him.

If he reached for it I would've screamed my ass off and made the buggest scene right in front of Prince. As someone said, the kid was in a public place surrounded by people. What if 20 people started taking pics???

Only 1 person did becaude he was the 1 Prince fan there...so of course Prince has to piss off the one fan.

Eye think that Bull has a found a knew whey to right posts two this sight. It's awl about the homophone. It canne bee the knew Prince-Speak. Eye, four won, think it's a reel grate idea. Butt, that's just my too sense. Please halve a cents of hugh more about this. Eye couldn't resist.

But seriously, I was in O'Hare airport 4 years ago and Fred Durst and the rest of the band were hanging out waiting for the flight to Vegas that we were all on. We asked him if we could take a picture with him and he was cool about it. But, there were people walking around that were taking pictures without asking and Fred would just make a face or give a peace sign when he saw them clicking away.

If you're in a public place and someone takes a picture of you...deal with it. Now, if that person goes and tries to sell that picture we have a problem. I hope that Prince doesn't think he is still that big of a star that a picture of him would sell on e-bay. Actually, who would buy any picture of any star taken in an airport? Maybe I should start a new website: www.airportpicturesofstars.com.

Well again my point is this. If Princes career is so bad ,why don't you go to the dolly parton sight,or the fine young cannibals sight. What jackasses. The only reason that you come to this sight is to cause problems. Grow up.I don't care about fred d. in the sense that if he would have said something about people taking his picture, I bet that you wouldn't have said anything about it here. You only will say what will make your point. The picture is not owed to the boy.Consider it a lesson learned. At least he didn't get his ass beat.

anyway i've been in situations where i've seen ppl rushing up to "stars" to snap them. it can be very scary and sudden for them...the body guard, whoever he was wink, was doing his job. there are some wacko's out there and thats why body guards are hired.
However we all feel we "know" prince and therefore can make judgement in this situation shrug
maybe prince needed a nice new camera? lol
if not...just give it back hon rolleyes

All I'm trying to say that if we take the "facts" of this story as they've been given to us it doesn't seem like this guy rushed up to Prince and looked like he was going to hurt him. I totally understand the problem of people running up to stars for pictures and autographs or for just a touch. Happens to me all the time, well, at least the cops like to rush after me at times but I digress.

At the Buffalo show 2 years ago where there were NO CAMERA signs all over the place a girl next to me had a disposable camera and took a picture and that bodyguard came flying over, took the camera and broke it apart right in front of her. It was pretty cool actually. That, I have no problem with.

At the point that the guy took the picture there were a couple of ways to handle it:
-Ask him to delete the picture and not do that again.
-Let it go, it's only a picture.
-Commit a crime by stealing someone's camera because they didn't know that there is a standing order of no cameras anytime that Prince is nearby and in a public place effectively alienating a fan in the process.

As for Bull telling me to go to another site because I think Prince's career is so bad? I never said that. I simply said that he is not quite the star he once was. I'm certainly not trying to cause any problems here either. I'm just replying with my opinions about a news item. I don't care if you agree or disagree with me. I think that what Prince's bodyguard did was out of line and it was most likely at the request of Prince himself. Am I going to burn his albums now? Of course not. Do I have to agree with everything he does to be a fan? God, I hope not!

Actually , the only posts to this story that are actually negative and worded to try and cause problems are Bull's. All of the other posts are just discussing different opinions on the situation. It's like being kicked off of a Nirvana website because you disagreed with Kurt Cobains decision to kill himself and they don't like people to be critical of the man.

Enough of this! You can all take my picture anytime, anywhere.

Whoa!

that's a TRIP & 1/2! but at the same time we all know Prince doesn't like his picture taken but me & that body guard would've been on the ground or they would've had 2 held me off at gun point 2 get "my camera" but that's what i'm thinking right now.

i wouldn't want a picture of Prince (mayb a cd if he had 1 on him) & i would've tried 2 walk up 2 him & shake his hand or mayb even asked if i could take a picture. people don't like that & at the same time "No 1" has the right 2 swipe u'r camara like that. that's just the life of a former Prince Fam/n i think...

2 bad so sad... get that camera back (with no film of course, digital or not)...

who the fuck does Prince (and the people on here sticking up for this behavior) think he is?

one of the things that irritates me most about celebrities, is when they're given some kind of special treatment at events or in public. handlers yelling out "no photos" and intimidating them like Prince's bodyguard did. or handlers saying "get out of the way, ___ is coming through".

fuck ___, that asshole can walk around me like everyone else. if ___ is walking by me, and says "excuse me" politely i'll move out of the way for him/her like i would anyone else. but my ass isn't moving out of the way because somebody yells "MOVE, NO PICTURES, PARIS HILTON (or Mario Lopez, or Craig Kilborn, or whoever) IS COMING THROUGH"

not even Prince.

That's an appaling attitude. Prince is my favourite artist but that does not give his security the excuse to act like members of the 3rd Reich.

Of course, we're all arguing over a story which may just be bullshit, but if it is true, then the bodyguard deserves to get his ass beat.

How the fuck can you justify robbing someone? Prince may be extremely talented (and I'm sure no-one who posts on this site disagrees) but that does not make him any more than a man and certainly does not make him infallible.

Of course the kid was rude, taking someone's snap without their consent is rude but we've all done it at parties to friends or family members who are camera shy. Bad manners does not justify intimidation and theft.

I am not surprised to hear that story at all. I remember being at a Prince aftershow party in 1990 in a club and some guy took a picture of Prince and Prince's bodyguards grabbed that poor guy and threw him out in the street in a way that I was wondering if he was not seriously injured after the kind of "nice treatment" he got. Some seconds or minutes later Prince left the club surrounded by his bodyguards looking as if he was the victim and not the young man. I have no idea though whether the guy was a fan or a journalist.
With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

"prince acts like an asshole in public. Again."

Wow. What a newsflash.

On 1 hand, this 19-year old should've showed a little consideration to at least ask to take the picture. Then again, we know Prince would have said NO & then had his bodyguards take the camera anyway, just to "prove a point".

Why does prince still have bodyguards???
it's NOT like his music is STILL so great, it's not like there are THOUSANDS of people who would just bumrush him because he is so amazing or his music is so awsome..
he used to be amazing, his music used to be awsome.

what would be the PERFECT irony would be if prince, during 1 of his little Jehovahs Witness "door-to-door" outings, rang this kid's doorbell & then went into his JW speech, then the kid slammed the door in prince's face..
that would be.. something!

I don't understand why I still get shocked that people are so... man, I can't even come up with the words.

Look:

No one is above the law.

It is not disrespectful to take a picture of somebody in a public place.

It is not illegal if you choose to disrespect a persons wishes about not being photographed in a public place.

IT IS ILLEGAL AND DISRESPECTFUL TO WALK UP TO SOMEBODY, THREATEN THEM, AND THEN STEAL THIER PROPERTY.

Stop trying to twist it. Prince's bodyguard IS IN THE WRONG. Hell, not just wrong, he's guilty of a CRIME. AN ACTUAL CRIME.

Morons. That's the word I'm looking for.

Why is this in CJ's gossip column and not the main news section? Not that this is major news.
Does everyone who has a beef with Prince go to CJ cause they know she's so unfair and unbalanced when it comes to Prince?
I'm not saying this didn't happen, but coming from the lady that reported not too long ago that Prince was going door to door with Larry, she's not the first person I'd take my story to if Prince's employee stole my camera.
Any day now CJ is going to accuse Prince of molesting a child. She seems to be that desperate.
