Prince acted like a first class jerk in the 80s and he has been paying the price ever since.

- Right! Most of the people I know don´t even care to check his music out because of his persona. They don´t like the artist, so they dont care about his art. It´s sad but true

WHY SHOULD GRAMMY AWARDS SUCK WHEN PRINCE IS NOT NOMINATED AND THEN SUDDENLY BECOME THE REFERENCE ABOUT FINE TASTE IN MUSIC WHEN THEY FINALLY CARE ABOUT HIM ?

I do not give a duckin' duck!

I'm really suprised yet proud that Prince has gotten recognized for this project. Prince is well deserving of a Grammy. You go boy!

Hey PlushFunk: Why are you proud? Are you a relative of Prince? Or had anything to do with him?

Just wondering?

If NEWS can get a nomination - how come One NIght Alone...Live! didn't get one either last year or this?

It's ironic that based on who seems to win these Grammy Awards that Prince's dullest recording in years will win one.

eye really hope Prince wins, eye want him to be recgonized by the old and the new once again. He is a musical genuis and deserves this, even though he probably won't care. 4 2004 eye would also like it (being such a big year 4 him) if he could release a album that battles against Purple Rain and makes him the greatest artist of all time! Hopefully dreams come true. music

I can only hope the dream will come true as well. I believe(as many others do) that Prince is capable of producing an album equally as good as Purple Rain on a commercial level. I am not convinced that he will do this though. As a huge long time Prince adorer I have longed for him to release something that will remind people of his powers as an artist against the rest of them but I don't think Prince's ego will let him do it. Maybe he will in 2004 however, as many are saying that it could be his most high profile year in a long time. I am hoping also that if he embarks on a greatest hits tour next year it will come to the United Kingdom so I could go and see him as I missed that ONA tour last year.

Thx for the support there realfunky and if he could come to the UK how brillant that would be especially if he could put in a performance as good as Purple Rain live in Tokyo, lets just pray that Prince and Life Can Be So Nice to us. Sorry about the pun lol

I don`t like the N.E.W.S. album; however I am glad that he did get a Grammy nomination. If he wins then maybe it will make people say "Is that the same Prince that was in that Purple Rain movie? What is he doing an Instrumental album for? Maybe I should expand my horizons and check it out." However since the public is pretty much mindless and easily led then they will probably pick up a copy of Brittney Spears Totally Topless XXX-Mas album.

I second that. The masses are dumb.

You can not have the man who is presenting you with the award ATTACKED. It's not cool. Especially when the man you are having ATTACKED is four foot tall Bob Denver!!!

Okay I am missing a major part of this story because never have I heard that Bob Denver was attacked on stage during that presentation so please fill me in. First I have to ask did Prince attack him? or was it Big Chick? If it was Big Chick why is that Prince's fault because Big Chick worked for him? Are you sure this really happend or is this rumor? I ask becuase I have never heard this before and even so that was in 1985 they need to get off it. People grow and change and Prince certainly has so why continue to hate on him when that was so long ago. Why would you the Grammys or whoever still want to punish him for that? Was Prince even aware that that happend? You see what I am getting at? After the last celebration (and I am not saying you are doing this now) someone started a rumor that Prince slapped his guitar tech on the head or some bullshit like that. I was surprised by how many people thought that actually went down. Eventually it took the tech himself to say that it did not go down that way. Of course if Bob Denver (God rest his soul) said that Prince attacked him then I have no argument. Either way please clarify and tell me the whole story because I have never heard that and would like too.
Peace

SUTRA1

U know what people?
It's kool anway if there R still some who hate becasue that would answer my question of why this world is @#$&*% like it is. Still, it's all good. Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, James Brown, Michael Jackson, George Clinton, Count Bassie, Louis Armstrong, Carlos Santana, and so many more of the great icons, What is there to say??? Or for them to prove to anyone? Nothing. If anyone has anything to say about there people and their music in a negative manner, maybe it is all good, since so many of us are here living in this time who understand, and so many are still lost:-)
Why don't we all just dig these guys while there are or were here if only to say we were living in their time and had to honor to actually see them do their stuff.

Wouldn't it have been great to have lived to visit Mozart while he was doing one of his concerts?
Guess that's kool too...
Let's not spend time of ones who lack the understanding if they are not seeking. Those who dig the trip, let's all vibe it's all good... much love

Without mentioning anyone in particular, it's gotten harder and harder for me to separate music from the musician, and when someone's an asshole and/or an idiot, I just can't bring myself to support them with my cash, even if the music slams.

When Prince went to stage to accept his 2nd Grammy award(Wendy and Lisa picked up the first) in 1985, Bob Denver, who presented Prince with the award moved into Prince's personal space either to shake Prince's hand or possibly to hug Prince. During those days Prince, who was ruling the pop world in every way, had a very huge ego and a very strict ' no one touches Prince' policy. I guess no one told Denver about this because he was totally stunned and embarrased when Big Chick roughed him up live on national television. Am I the only one on this site old enough to have seen th '85 Grammy's live?

- Well, I never had this problem, specially because some of the best musicians are egocentrical. If I liked the music, I would still buy it. There are lots of things in Prince that I don´t like. I wish he was less androginous. I don´t like most of his falsettos too, I prefer his normal voice. And of course his eccentricity...the name change, his ego, etc. But he is such a wonderful musician that I have to swallow the things I dont like.

Vanilla Ice has never been an ICON, only 1 song...the world will know him by...and Prince is far greater a musician and household name than Ice will ever be!

I'll be psycho...when Prince gets inducted and wins that grammy!!!

Prince has changed since 1985 and I think he has a good chance of scoring an award from the grammy's in the near future.

The Music is mature and refreshing to those who really haven't given a listen to Prince since the 90's.

I agree to an extent, and I'm not usually bothered by an artist being eccentric, strange, or even difficult. Most of the times, its a bonus! But blatant asshole is something different. For instance, I'll never buy anything from Tha Row record label, just 'cuz I think Shug Knight's an asshole and a criminal and I don't want to put any money in his thug pockets. Yeah, I know he's an owner and not an artist, but just illustrating my point.

The NEWS was great but PRINCE WILL NOT WIN THE GRAMMY OR ANY OTHER GRAMMY EVER AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE STUNT HE PULLED AT THE GRAMMY'S IN FEB 1985. This is also why Sign of the TIMES lost out to U2's The Joshua Tree for Album of the Year in '87.

It's going a bit far to suggest that Big Chick roughed up Bob Denver. He just sort of blocked his path, cut him off from hugging Prince.

Thank you! I thought that was overexagerated a bit. I have been searching through all my Prince stuff because I know I have a video tape of that night somewhere to see if Prince or Big Chick did that. Like I said a few posts up. Some people are so ready to believe any negative thing about Prince that they will go to extremes. I wish people could just enjoy the artistry but hey I guess that is too much. Thank you for your post and clearing that up though cause I was starting to wonder.
