Family Jamm! Benefit Concert to Feature Many Artists Behind “Minneapolis Sound” of the 1980s

LOS ANGELES, CA (PR Web) November 22, 2003 - For the first time in nearly two decades, members of Prince’s former backing band, “The Revolution” will reunite to perform with other key musicians responsible for bringing the “Minneapolis Sound” to the airwaves in the 1980s. Artists such as Sheila E., The Family, and members of The Time, as well as special guest stars Chaka Khan and Patti LaBelle will perform at the "1st Annual Family Jamm!", a special one-night-only benefit concert taking place on Saturday, December 13, 2003 (Doors: 6:00pm, Show: 7:30pm) at the Great Western Forum in Los Angeles, California. The event is presented by Sheila E. and the Lil' Angel Bunny Foundation with proceeds going to the Lil’ Angel Bunny Foundation.

The star-studded line up includes the following acts:

- World renown singer, actress, author Patti LaBelle
- World renown singer, author Chaka Khan
- The Revolution, featuring original members Wendy and Lisa, Dr. Fink, BrownMark and Bobby Z.
- World renown percussionist, drummer, singer Sheila E. and her original band including saxophonist Eddie M., Miko Weaver, Juan Escovedo, Karl Perazzo, Benny Rietveld, Susie Davis and Stef Burns.
- Members of The Time, featuring Jesse Johnson, Jellybean Johnson and Jerome Benton
- Jill Jones
- Actress and singer Apollonia
- The Family, featuring St. Paul Peterson, Susannah Melvoin, Eric Leeds and Jellybean Johnson.
- Madhouse, featuring Sheila E., Eric Leeds and Levi Seacer Jr.

The event, hosted by former “Baywatch” star actress Carmen Electra, is currently adding presenters to the already impressive line up. The latest celebrity to confirm participation is actress Nicole Parker.

"We will bring together artists from many of the bands that Prince created for one night only. This has never been done before", says Sheila E., who will perform with her band from the “Romance 1600” era as well. "Prince is very close to our hearts and is why we are able to do this. It was his amazing ability and creativity to put these different artists together. We were all given an opportunity to begin an amazing journey in our collective and individual careers.”

Proceeds from the concert will go towards the creation of the Compassion Care Center, that will provide recreation and education therapy through music and the arts.

The building of the Compassion Care Center is just one of many projects of Sheila E.'s and business partner Lynn Mabry's Lil' Angel Bunny Foundation (LABF). Sheila herself was sexually abused by a babysitter, and Mabry, by a family friend. Lynn adds, "It's awesome how we are given a tool such as music to express our feelings, and ultimately it has the amazing ability to heal. What better way to offer a child hope through something as powerful as music and the arts."

Lil' Angel Bunny Foundation (LABF) is dedicated to be a viable vehicle that will provide abused, abandoned, and severely emotionally disturbed children compassionate care by implementing an alternative method of recreational and education therapy through music and the arts and funding special services and programs that assist the needs of these children using these fundamental methods.

Tickets ($75 and $50) for this event are currently on sale through Ticketmaster.

I've read that when Prince decides to perform, Wendy and Lisa will cancel their performance.

Seems like some bad blood still active...

So... What will it be... Prince or Wendy and Lisa ?

shouldn't this gig be renamed the ex Purple Hypocrits show. Can you beleieve the cheek of some of these so called stars, people like W&L, Jill Jones etc have been telling it like it is and saying how harshly treated they've been. Yet here we are in the run up to the big Purple rain relaunch[?] i.e. a big pay day and wouldn't ya know but bless their lickle cotton socks here they all are gathered to give praise to Prince in the name of charity!!.
Forgive me if i sound a little cynical here but its how i feel, dont you agree?, and dont be giving me none of that 'perhaps they want to bury the hatchet' BS, cuz like most things purple it comes down to money.
Peace.

That is a big pile of shit and believe me I know for a fact that the girls are looking forward to playing with Prince if he shows up. Such utter bullshit amazes me.
Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

Well being that no one is being paid for this concert that kind of blows your whole theory out of the water doesn't it?? Anyone who has ever worked with Prince from Andre to Wendy and Lisa have had problems with him, but they get over it, something that fans can't seem to understand. Just when I think I've read the most rediculous post on the Org, someone has to go and top it.

Thanks WonderU for setting people straight.

This is a charity event people... and something that most Prince fans have wished for for years... so stop complaining and just be thankful Sheila is generous and thoughtful enought to do something like this.

No, I don't agree and I don't get your point.
Although in fact many associates have stated in interviews that the treatment + payment wasn't good, only very few would deny that it was Prince who started them.
And as you say yourself, it's for CHARITY and even if it wasn't, in my opinion it would be totally o.k. to do such a show.
Maybe they intend to give praise to Prince, maybe they don't, but I think it's a great idea to gather all those people after all those years. It's like class reunion without your severe maths teacher. He is the reason that you can do your maths but you don't need him to be around.

Maybe your view is too much fixed on Prince but to call excellent musicians like St.Paul Peterson, Wendy & Lisa, or Jesse Johnson hypocits is just stupid. Of course you want to provoke with that entry, but it's stupid.

I must say that I'm very sad that I can't make it but the journey from Europe for just 1 concert is simply to expensive. I really hope for a nice SAB set or maybe a video or something like that.

Co-sign. It amazes me that people still think that all these people hate Prince so much. And there's NO WAY Prince is going to miss this show, even if he's just in the audience. But we all know Prince do you think he's going to be able to resist jamming with Madhouse or the Family??? Go over to the NPGMC Reflection room and listen and tell me he's not pumped about this show. And Sheila and Lynn are VERY close to Rhonda, Renato, and Rad so they'll probably be there too.

Sure it would be nice if Prince went, but for some of us the show really isn't "missing" anything.

I wouldn't wait for Prince to confirm, he'll just show up and jam.

His ego and the fact that he loves those guys. His energy level went through the roof at the 2000 Celebration when Bobby, Mark and Matt joined him onstage. Morris Hayes said Prince was bummed that Wendy and Lisa couldn't make it. And the very next year he tried to get them all again even putting "will the REAL Revolution please stand up?" on the NPG site. So I really doubt Prince will miss the chance to jam with them all again. I know I can't wait to see it!! nod

I think he'll show too. It's a strategic location and time to schedule a gig in Hawaii after showing up in LA for the Benefit. Easy hop.

There is no way in hell that Prince will be at this event. You guys are dreaming.

I cant imagine a more uncomfortable situation for Prince to put himself in. He would have NO control at all. It's different than the Celebration when he runs the whole show on his territory.

Besides, if he went it would distract from the whole thing and take the spotlight off the people who it's about.

Hey Prince, if you read the posts on this site,GO! What was the line in "Still Would Stand All Time"?, "you better run to the light, leave your past behind (meaning the negative),all things will be fine". If you do perform, the event will "Stand All Time"!

The lack of Morris Day's name is the first thing I noticed when I looked at this line up!

I don't think Prince is goign to show, and Morris must be staying away to be loyal to him.

At one point, when this Jamm was first mentioned in late summer, I thought, "sure PRince will be there."

But then, we I heard he was going door to door witnessing, I thought "can he never mesh again with Wendy and Lisa." I can just see him trying to witness to them about the abomination of lesbianism.

If he's still hangin' with Laryy, he's not going to show. And he'd mess up some great music with religious replacement lyrics.

It's well-known that Sheila and Prince are still close. Your point?

My statement is that Morris must be being loyal to Prince's decision to stay away (since he still plays with him now from time to time).Anyway, I'm speculating on Morris's absence. I can speculate. Damn. Stay out of my bizness. This is not testimony under oath.

And as far as whether "they've all gotten over most of what went on" that's not what I've heard. I've seen no signs that Wendy and Lisa have reconciled with Prince enough to sing past Revoultion-era songs on stage with him.

And if you think otherwise, who gives a shit ... especially when you state your opinion by telling me to "get over" mine. This is a free, democratic forum.
