Renee Geyer cover of Thieves in the Temple

From: http://www.reneegeyer.com.au/

For her latest album, "Tenderland", Renée Geyer has chosen to apply her talent and experience to just a few of the songs that have reached her ear over the years. Songs that offer Renée a chance to transform them into something completely new and magical and personal, from Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye to Prince, from Gladys Knight and Lulu to Bobbie Gentry. Tenderland opens with a bluesy version of Prince's "Thieves in the Temple" that would satisfy Prince himself.

...

Some history: Renee's 1977 single “Stares And Whispers” was on the way to becoming a major hit on black music radio in America until programmers looked at the stunning blue-eyed blonde on the record cover. Not what they thought they were hearing. Renee went against advice to hide the fact that she was white, not realising the effect it would have on sales.

Tour Tidbit: Renee was performing every night during Prince's recent tour in Australia and so couldn't get to see a concert. When she heard that Prince was playing the Basement, she rang the club and threatened to never perform there again unless they let her in for Prince's show. She got her way.

I don't know her, but she has balls! (figuratively speaking of course)

Blues version of TITT?... Could be nice... thumbs up!

Wasn't TITT as blues song originally?

Well, me thinks that Prince can soon be living of royalties quite comfortly, now that everybody makes cover versions of his songs. You only one more great hit in the style of "Nothing compares 2 u" for the man to retire... On the other hand, that would be a nightmare for us fans, imagine, no more music from the man...

But - can you imagine a boy group covering Sign of the times? Or - the way Britney is going lyrically, she could soon sing a version of Sister, or Head rolleyes ...

Renee Geyer's cool. She did a great soulful ironic cover of JB's Man's World in the mid-80s.
Oh, and her parents run a kosher catering business that did the food for my Bar-Mitzvah!!!
