Not all that great, but still nice to hear that there is at least something NEW to be heard...
why does it takes so long for Prince to release just a few new songs?
I mean, he wants to keep high the fact that he writes so many (new) songs, and has so many shelved as well. Why not use this INTERNET medium to release a bit more? In fact i expected a little more then just lots of text concerning Jehova believes, etc.
I did like the first two years of the NPGMC-side if i think of it. At least we had the NPGMC Ahdio Shows and do i like those. They made you feel that Prince was also digging in his back catalogue. We were listening at the same time with him to his previous jewels and a few nuwer tunez.

The new VEGAS DVD is ok, but it took so long to get a DVD.
No new album, except for N.E.W.S., and i don't count it really as a new Prince album. I'm not even listening to it anymore. It's a bit 'flat', and not all that 'new directions' to me..
Glad that the 'Chocolate Inv...' project is shelved.

Prince, please, no new BIG packages, just a simple new album with ten tracks: 'songs' will do just fine. A single release, a b/w Xtra track, a maxi with one extended version, not too much remixes, and i'm a happy boy again.

Or why not a second DVD from the Asian/Australian tour?
with some Xtra features... smile hehe

(a man can dream can't i?)
peace.

Has it ever occured to anybody that Prince is *GASP* not being entirely truthful when he refers to "grooves and grooves up on the shelf"?

I think that the 'vault' isn't nearly as stocked as we have been led to believe. I think it's all part of the lore and myth. Which is fine...I mean that's rock 'n roll.

But if he really did have SO MUCH music available, we would hear a lot more of it than we do. Think about it...he's always been griping about not being able to release as much music as he'd like to 'cuz of the evils of the recording industry and the labels. Well, now he finally can release all he wants, and we get a lot of remixes and ahdio shows full of old material. Granted he's released more new stuff than most, but not nearly as much as you'd think he could if in fact he had as much vault material as he says he has.

just my .02...

well alexandernevermind,

he does! that's simply the truth!
Wendy & Lisa said it several times in different interviews, Eric Leeds said this as well, Levi too, and Sheila talked about it as well.. as well as many other former musicians and paisley parkers.
so i believe them, these people just don't lie, because they even gave lots of inside info on the recording sessions.. and even took part in most of 'm.

read the Dayz Of Wild book, or anything by Per Nilsen, and look at the discography and recordingsessions index. That IS pretty much the truth. possibly that some facts don't have all the right info.
so there ARE a lot of unreleased songs. Probably more than he did release. But the quality of all those different trax and alternative versions of excisting trax all are very different. some trax probably even aren't real songs, but just sketches of ideas, recorded on one instrument or maybe even written on a sheet of paper. demos, etc..
But i'm also very sure he did record and mastered several 100s of unreleased trax. Why? because the excistence of them can be proved through ASCAP and different other official copywright services. there are also circulating a lot of bootlegs with the actual studiorecordings on there.

so there ya go..
peace.

TrueRomance

Not a NPGMC member so i dont have the privelege of commenting on it but as for the convo on "the vault" and unrealeased tracks I'm sure they're not all in finished form but a fragment of a song for a man of his talent could equate a full track... And maybe he's not sure if he wants to release it his'self or give it to someone.etc...

I'm just relieved, after N.E.W.S, that he's recording with vocals again.

I have no doubt that Prince has hundreds of unreleased "grooves up on the shelf". I've heard at least 100 unreleased songs over the years and that's probably just a small fraction of what he has completed.

Of course he "should" let us hear more of them, but for some reason, he refuses...no "Crystal Ball II", no "Roadhouse Garden", etc.

The quality of the songs is not the issue, cuz we know he has tons of great unreleased songs. I think this is just another area where he is very eccentric and there's no way to figure out what is going through his little head on this subject.

This new song is pretty unremarkable imo, but it's better than nothing. However, Prince has written more incredible songs than anyone out there and if he never writes another great song, he will still be the best ever to my ears.

- It´s a nice song, but still slick. We see that Prince is approaching the ´soft jazz soul´ genre of Norman Brown, Rhonda Smith, etc
And the production sounds kind of rushed. I am expecting more of the next album...

- For me, the problem is not the number of songs, but the QUALITY. For me, it would be much better if Prince only wrote 20 songs in the level of When Doves cry or ´I could never take the place of your man´ instead of 200 in the level of ´Shooh be dooh´ or ´My medallion´

What Do U Want Me 2 Do?

I see you pick me out from the crowd
Could it be the way I play guitar?
Master of the soul (or soft?) – not 2 loud
1 day maybe I will be a star

I see u pick me out like u want something
Shame on u babe - can’t u see this ring?

What do U want Me 2 Do Girl?
What do U want Me 2 Do Babe?
What do U want Me 2 Do Girl?
What do U want Me 2 Do Babe?

I got a woman you got ur man
So we got 2 do what’s right
U’d get beheaded in other lands
If I were in ur arms 2nite
U try 2 get me under
That icy plunder - boy oh boy what a scam - ooh

What do U want Me 2 Do Girl?
What do U want Me 2 Do Babe?
What do U want Me 2 Do Girl?
What do U want Me 2 Do Babe?

U picked me out of the crowd and
Ooh - just so bold and so proud
And just like u want everybody 2 just say “wow”
Didn’t her momma teach her better? Ow
Dressed like that somebody gon’ get her…

I see u pick me from the crowd
Could it be the way I play guitar?
Master of the soul - not 2 loud
I don’t ever really wanna be where you are, where you are

What do U want Me 2 Do Girl?
What do U want Me 2 Do Babe?
What do U want Me 2 Do Girl?
What do U want Me 2 Do Babe?

[color=blue:7174310bdb:8d2c98f358]I think this may have been recorded during the "Rave..." sessions. Only because it is from the same 'return to the Linn drum and phased high-hat rhythm track vibe' from other "Rave ..." era tracks like "Juke Box Wit a Heartbeat" and "Props N Pounds". What a cool groove. I love it.

Whoa, you people never cease to surprise me! "Works much better with the other way around"??? What the hell is that supposed to mean? Do you really think people have feelings and opinions based on what "works better"? When you hear about a murder on the news, do you then force a happy reaction from yourself because it "works better"? The world can be happy, fantastic, impressive and beautiful. But it can also be cruel, strange, incomprehensible and dark. If you don´t acknowledge that then you´re living in a fantasy world.

The same goes for a simple little thing like this. If they like the bloody song, fine, and if they don´t like it then that´s fine too. It´s an opinion that is just as valid as the first one, and together they reflect different sides of the same truth.

I don't see it as having a "negative attitude" just because you don't like one song. If he wrote and released a kickass song, nearly everyone here would be saying that. But he didn't and we aren't.

It´s not a dumb question. Anyway, if your computer works the same way mine does then all you need to do is play the song on the site, then do a simple search on your hard drive (start-button, then "search") for "mp3" or "npgmc" and it will appear. You can then cut it from the temporary internet folder it´s in and then paste it wherever you want.

If anyone remembers at the very first CELEBRATION in year 2000...The Fans were shown the Vault room, actually we were shown 2 of them...One was opened and the other wasn't...

Wondering what was so special about the 2nd vault that they couldnt open it...hmmm!

But the first vault was filled with recordings from wall to wall!!!

So I believe PRINCE does have 1,000's and 1,000's of songs that he's holding onto...and perhaps he's waiting on some great deal to present them to us.

Sometime an artist truly does want the music to be heard, so perhaps he's using this time to give us less music, until he has the proper way to distribute the best!

I love all of his music...and I do like the new tune, but would prefer something exciting and refreshing, like a PRINCE track used to do me!

PRINCE Bring on the new full length album!!!
