4th report from Kansas City Hit n Run

A really good show in Kansas City on Sunday night.

As usual, Milenia started and they actually can sing, as some have said before, their stage routine needs work. I expected not to like them, but they weren't bad, even though there were times you could barely understand what they were saying.

The Baldheads kicked it big time, although I thought they should have ended with "Anotherlover..." always leave them wanting more.

Prince started a bit before 9:30 and played slightly over 2 hours, he did the standard set list he has done on the tour. At first, I could kind of see what some have talked about, that he seemed to lack energy, but he picked it up with each song.

He really seemed to hit his stride in the middle with the Do Me Baby/Scandalous/Diamonds & Pearls/The Beautiful Ones/Nothing Compares.. melody. His vocals were very impressive, the guy does not get near enough credit for his voice and he proved it all night. He also did an amazing version of UMMSS, some great blues guitar and more fantastic vocals, the crowd really responded well to it. Much better than the recorded version.

He really seemed to relax as the night went on and interacted very well with the crowd. I thought Najee worked well and his playing on "Father's Song" was excellent.

Purple Rain was great, and he did the U Got The Look/Kiss/Gett Off encore to perfection. It felt like the whole building was shaking, everyone was dancing like mad, it was a nice way to close.

My only complaint was he really didn't dance that much. I never expected to go to a Prince show and not see at least one split, but he never did one (unless he did it when they had the spot light shining directly in my eyes). A small complaint to be sure.

I went back to get a guitar after the show just in time to see them sell the last one.

Oh well.
