From The South China Morning Post. Prince's after party Prince gets the Edge over awaiting glitterati
Prince did not disappoint his fans at Harbour Fest on Friday night, but that's more than can be said for the socialites and glitterati who headed for Dragon-i, where it had been rumoured the Purple One would hold the show's after party. But if any one of the champagne-sippers had actually bothered to go to the concert at the Tamar site, they wouldn't have been wasting their time at Dragon-i. Prince's management had earlier toured Hong Kong's clubs to find the perfect venue for the after party - they had a big list of demands and apparently neither the Kee Club nor Dragon-i fit the bill. High on the list was a stage and a backdoor exit (presumably so Prince could escape the thousands of fans waiting outside). They did manage to find the perfect spot, although this venue wasn't secret for long. At the end of Prince's concert, the man himself announced to the audience: "The official after party is at the Edge!" So while the acolytes waited at Dragon-i, Prince and his band were just below, playing to a small, intimate crowd. "This is what we built this place for: live music. We have everything they asked for - a stage, a back door exit, the best sound system, lighting," said Edge manager Luis Porras. Prince left about 3am with not a sign of paparazzi outside. And the thousands of waiting fans? It was more like 10. | |
