The Soft Pink Truth cover 'Make Up' ...bet this is the last track you thought anyone would cover
well, The Soft Pink Truth has included a funky/electro version of Vanity 6's 'Make Up' on his "Do You Party?" album. Drew Daniel is Soft Pink Truth. he is also 1/2 of Bjork's fave production duo, Matmos. and to top it all off...the one and only, Matthew Herbert, has released this gem of a party album on his SoundsLike label. it was released a few months back, but i have yet to see it mentioned here at theOrg. -peaceternal

HAHA! This album is nice. I had no idea Drew is part of Bjork's production team. Matthew Herbert is another favorite of mine! All of Herbert's releases are incredible! I love "Do You Party" it's a tight album and the cover of "Make Up" is worth the purchase alone.
Another artist worth checking out if you haven't heard of him or this release yet is Felix the Housecat's-"Kitten and Thee Glitz". There a song on there titled "Silver Screen Shower Scence" which loops a part of "Controversy". The album is heavily 80's synth infulenced and you don't have to listen to close to hear the Prince influence.

As I read this I was already listening to it before I logged on, I'm trippin' out! Anyway, it's not a bad cd, I actually dig it the more I hear it. The last track is an audio "Thank U" and he thanks Vanity for writing such good songs, and a snippet of "Nasty Girl" is playing in the background. I want to inform him (or should I let him fantasize a bit still?) who the actual writer of the tunes were. On this version of "Make Up" they changed the lyric slightly...Green is used instead of Pink...U would think with a name like The Soft Pink Truth, U would use the original lyric, but I digress... If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

Not to mention the very obvious loop of "Bite The Beat" on the track "What does it feel like". I've wondered about that...Since Prince didn't get a writing credit on that, (and it's almost insulting just how brazen Felix was with the use of it, that someone wouldn't pick up on it). Matthew Herbert? If it's the same one that I know of, he's done a few remixes for one of my favorite groups, Moloko. Ya'll should check out Alex Gopher too, he's influenced by Prince bigtime too! If anyone reading this thread has never heard anything about or by Moloko run out and pick up their latest cd Statues you won't have a choice but to back track and purchase all of their releases. Statues is by far the best release of 2003 and 2002 in my opinion! [This message was edited Tue Oct 14 14:33:15 PDT 2003 by magnificentsynthesizer667]
