Ja Rule talks about a Prince sample

In the latest issue of British hip hop magazine Hip Hop Connection, Def Jam records rapper Ja Rule, who was on Blackstreet's Girlfriend/Boyfriend, had this to say:

Q) Is there anything that annoys you in the music world?

Yeah. There's something that's annoying me right now. I really wanted to put a sample from Prince on my album, but he wouldn't allow me to use it. He's black, I'm black. Him denying me that sample is like denying me a chance to eat.

Q) Why wouldn't he give sample clearance?

I don't know. He didn't give no reason. But I know the track was hot. What if that track was the only one that would have been a hit? I feel like he's saying to me
'Fuck you. Go back to the streets.'

Maybe Prince just didn't like the use of the sample, or
thought it was no good. Who knows?
