Prince Friendly Radio DJ in Florida's most Populated County

http://www.wmnf.org/progr...ofileId=32

http://www.wmnf.org has a late night "lover's only" program that is known for playing very smooth jams for a couple of hours durirng the night. It reaches all of hillsborough county (Tampa, St. Petersburge & Clearwater) covering well over 2 million listeners.

Last Saturday, the DJ's played 3 Prince songs in one hour (Do me Baby, Friend Lover Sister Wife, and Adore). They take requests.

The coolest kudos was when they played a Maxwel CD, and said, "since we've played so many Prince songs, we might as well play his immitators."

Too Funny.

Is this really noteworthy news?

confuse

I mean, Prince is occassionally played on Danish radio. So, like, "they played three Prince somgs on the radio in Florida. OMG, I wish I had been in Florida so I could have heard that! So what if I have those songs on CD and can hear them any time I want. *Three* songs on the radio. Wow!"

lol

What's wrong with you? I think it's great that some DJ's dare playing three! Prince songs in 1 hour. And they DO NOT do that in Denmark. Danish radio really suck! They only play songs which top the charts - it's so boring and easy. But if that's what you like, then OK. But don't ignore a DJ playing Prince...!

Never fails to hear Adore on 88.5 when I'm on my way to The Castle...

Muse 2 The Pharoah and International Lover are also nails in the bewitching hour of 88.5, but Adore is NEVER left out...

Yeah we have that where I am also, Al-B-Sure the R&b singer "Hotel California""Your Love Is So" etc., etc. has a smooth listening show and to intro a request he plays the opening to Muse 2 the Pharoa which is cool, I always loose it because I think the song is going to play but it's cool, he must be a P fan.

I have to agree with some of the other posters and ask - has Prince's career sunk so low that it's news that he gets airplay? He used to always get airplay and it used to be a good way for someone new to get a hit was to sound like a Prince song or even have Prince write for you. Like The Time, Sheila E, the Bangles, etc.

stop whinning... Anytime an artist takes on the industry, he's bound to be blackballed. And since clear channel owns damn near 70% of the stations we listen to, it's no wonder. Prince career is just fine, how about yours?

that's a cop out - he was bucking the system when he released the Most Beautiful Girl in the World, yet he got that to #1 and kept it on the charts for 6 full months. He killed his own career by releasing substandard albums to spite warner bros - like Come and Chaos and Disorder.

And somewhere along the way he lost his edge. Prince used to set the trends that others copied. What happened to the guy who kicked everyone's butt with songs like When Doves Cry and Gett Off?

Don't get me wrong, I love his recent work - the Rainbow Children, One Nite Alone, N.E.W.S., but is sure has been a long time since he released a single that should have gotten significant airplay. My Medallion is probably the most airplay worthy song from the last few years, and it never even got released on an album. So don't blame lack of airplay on being blackballed.

So how do explain artist like Seal not getting airplay, or the eagles new single? If you are not on one of the major record labels radio stations have no incentive-read cash, to play you. Get your facts straight young one.

And TMBGW was written in conjuction with the Mrs.USA pageant. and he was still under contract with WWB, although he was allowed to release that single under his alias.

understood but at the same time "The Edgy Stuff" u'r talking about came from a "Young, Vibrant Full Of Life" Prince & that's not 2 say that he's NOT "Full Of Life" now in his 40's but u change & u mellow out. the Music is STILL Funky & the Ballads STILL make u shed a Tear (well, mayb not u but it does 4 me).

i always say & i [b]SWORE[b/] that the day i stop getting chills 2 P's Music is the day i stop listenin' 2 him (& the older stuff with The Related Artist).

P's Career as a Musician isn't DEAD it's still going on but w/out The Major Radio/Music Companies...

who needs em. he's a Millionaire & he still got The NPGMC 2 "pum the funk"...
Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

To everyone that doesn't understand. We live (U.S.) in a Capitalist society where $$ rules. Whoever has the $$$, has the influences over the masses. WB, like many other major labels, is a muli-national, multi-billion dollar company that puts a ton of money into promotion. Radio stations are controlled by those major labels in a sense that $$$ is given to keep radio stations playing what THEY want to play, not what we want to hear. My solution...turn the radio off.

I'm not talking about Prince the musician, I'm talking about Prince the pop artist. I still buy and enjoy everything Prince the musician puts out. I'm just saying that the downfall of Prince the musician is mostly prince's own doing. Starting with the release of Come. He had a plan to stay relevant then, with the planned simultaneous release of the Gold Experience. He was coming off of the success of the Most Beautiful Girl in the World.

Dolphin would have been a successful followup. Pussy Control was big in the clubs. He could have gotten sales of 3 to 5 million had he released it when he wanted and promoted it like he should. Instead, by the time it was released, he refused to do anything but token promotion. Then there was Chaos and Disorder and the release of the Black Album. Suddenly the artist who has the record for most consecutive years of top 10 hits had 4 straight commercial flops, with no top 10 hits. And this was all under WB, who wanted nothing more than to sell lots of copies.

Again, you have to start with pointing the finger straight at Prince if you are going to talk about lack of airplay.

You bet, it is NEWS. I live in Pillellas/St Petersburg and I have never heard of a radio station playing Prince (except Rasberry Berret, Let's go crazy).
It is a good thing that a DJ fill the airwaves of Central Florida with some Princely Jams.

Now I will be listening.

Thanks

- Well, here in Brazil, Prince is played rarely on radio. Even the Most Beautiful Girl in the World only played 3 or 4 times here. I always feel good when I hear him on radio.
It´s not the 80s anymore. I will always be surprised if they play something from the new albums.

- Although I dislike My Medallion, I agree with you. He really made substandard albums because he was fighting Warner Bros. For example: how could he leave ´Days of Wild´ and ´The ride´ out of Gold? Why did The Vault has such a cheap production when it comes to booklet artwork? If he gave his full potential on his last albums, he would probably have more fans.

Yawn! Peole to this day still say Price is nothing but a cut and paste of James Brown, Lil Richard and Jimi Hindrix.
Everyone is influenced by someone. No man is an Island.

Prince is a extremly talented, but so is Maxwell in his own right, and other Artist like D'Angelo and Muziq.

In future generations people will be comparing the Artist then to Maxwell and other artist of this generation. Its always been that way.

The main fact that this is even posted as "News," is a "sign o' tha times!" Prince's is not hip anymore. If he was and the majority thought so...This would not be news.

How often is Jay'z and B'eonce played eveyrday? They of course shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Prince. The point is..Its over folks! Its over! He will not be back. The Pricne days are gone forever. Enjoy the music, enjoy the memories, and catch his act in Vagas when you retire...lol

I wonder if he will add a version of Elvis's version of "I did it my way" to his set?..lol
