Beck covers Prince

Anyone at Beck's gig in Brixton on 21st August, will have seen him do a medley of Nelly's "Hot in herre", Justin Timberlake's "Dance with me", Beyonce's "Crazy in love", and just a snippet of Prince's "Erotic City".

Beck was on top form, and gave the type of performance you used to see Prince give, a lot of great playing, singing and even dancing. I knew that Beck was chucking in Nelly's tune, but got a pleasant shock to hear Erotic City.

To all those who haven't yet bought it, you should check out Beck's album "Midnite Vutures", which is a great Prince tribute if ever there was one!

You might say Beck sucks, but listen to "Debra" on Midnight Vultures and tell me that's not the best tribute to Prince's "Adore" ever made. Funny and brilliant.

Beck is a big Prince fan. Midnite Vultures is the best tribute to Prince I ever heard. It is great because it´s a tribute but Beck adds his own personality...smile

- I dont think Beck is a genius, but he is authentic and versatile. His concert at Rock in Rio 3 was very good. It´s nice to see Prince covered by authentic and expressive musicians. Very different from those lame neo-soul Prince wannabees

Beck rules and the Midnite Vultures album does have some great songs on it. "Debra" is very funny and definitely inspired by Adore to some extent..."I wanna get with you...oh girl...and your sister..I think her name's Debra..."..lol

Midnite Vultures is an AMAZING album -- one of my favorites. All of you anti-Beck folk need to listen to more than just loser and the radio songs before you judge him (just like I'm sure you would have others do, before they judge P wink .

Beck sucks. bored

I'm convinced. It's a con.

Period.

No, no. Beck is not what Prince was. No.

Two, Midnight Vultures was NOT a Prince tribute. It's more of a parody of soul music and early 80's hip hop stuff, NOT A TRIBUTE.

Midnight Vultures sucks. Only Debra was a decent song...but even then, I dare him sing it live without ear monitors or without all those software filters...

And really now, this is NOT Prince NEWS...what's up?!

Prince uses LOADS of software and noise gates on his voice, so it's not a valid point. try again.

You musn't have seen Prince back in 1983-87 ?

I saw Beck twice on stage. It was OK but nothing groundbreaking. I could write a long list of artists who are far better than Beck on stage.

Moreover he is really ugly. I'm sorry to say that but it's so true.

Midnite Vultures is a good album. I like it. But come on there is nothing amazing about it. What puts me down with beck a lot is that he doesn't match any of my fav musicians in terms of pure musicianship. He is talented but certainly not a major artist and his influence over modern music is inexistant.

Interesting... personally I don't have any Beck albums. I think I'll check Midnight Vultures out!
How many albums has Beck done?
Would Midnight Vultures be the ideal album for an introduction into Beck's music?

Beck is a good artist, not great.
"Debra" is funny, but I wish he
wouldn't sing in falsetto anymore, DAMN!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I have a Beck interview on a mag in which he says Midnight voltures is a collection of music that he would have liked to hear from Prince. He declares to be highly influenced by the Lovesexy album and by Prince's impact live
cheers

Becks last album is definitly not a tribute to Prince. Anyway Beck is ok but not that good. He is more of a joker than a genius.

HOW typical. I expected as much from prince.org, completely misunderstanding why Beck included Erotic City in his medley...all of you r&b "funksters", etc, need to get a clue, there is more to Beck than his surface humour...see him live and actually listen to his fucken albums. none of you seem to have the faintest idea about a REAL ARTIST who is one of the greatest musicians of his generation. Beck is AWESOME. I've seen him live twice and both times he kicked my arse, especially on the Odelay tour. HE'S NOT TRYING TO BE your precious PRINCE and that's not what this news story is about either...Beck is the real deal as an artist too, but he's a different kind of artist than Prince and what he does up on stage with his band and the splits and the dancing is just an HOMAGE to funk style...not even necessarily Prince. I wouldn't compare the two...he knows he's a white boy trying on the funk...THAT'S THE POINT. BUT he also does it his way. My god it's so amusing how many orgers seem to have no sense of irony. Is it an American thing? You take your Princey way too serious. Sheeesh!

I saw beck life, i really cant understand that some ppl in here dont see that beck is a great musician. Listent 2 his music. This boy is very original. U dont have 2 like what he does, but u cant deny that he is a great musician.
U just cant put him in a catagory. When it comes 2 that he is like prince. He is misunderstood and he confusus ppl. But that is just what i like in an artist.
free ur mind

good for you. he still uses effects in the studio and on tour. MOST people do. my point was that you can't put Beck down for using effects as Prince also uses them .

Beck IS a genius. His lyric-writing skills are on a level far above where Prince ever was (and let's not even talk about Prince's recent lyrical output).

Whoever claimed that Beck can't sing without "software" or "filtering devices" clearly has never seen Beck sing live...the man has a GORGEOUS, natural voice.

I don't understand why to some people being a Prince fan means constantly degrading other talented artists.

You could mention hundreds of artists I love and admire but you happen to pick one that I think is good but not fantastic. What can I do about it ? Lie and pretend he is a god damn genius ! For fuck sake admit that some people do not think Beck is great.

And yes I have seen him on stage twice and yes I thought the way he moves was ridiculous. Yes I thought there was no grace in the way he walks and dance. Yes I thought that his voice was average. Yes I thought his band was good but not great.

I'm sorry but I take any funkadelic session against a beck gig.
