Purple Reign

From TicketMaster:
"JOAT and Glamour Hair Int: Prince Mania The Musical
Starring Purple Reign. A Tribute to Prince
CHENE PARK AMPHITHEATRE
Saturday August 23, 2003 SHOW 8:00PM"
tickets $20 - $40

[I don't know what this is all about. Sounds really, strange. Chene is a good-sized auditorium... weird. -Ben]

THERE IS A PRINCE TRIBUTE BAND THAT I SAW IN LAS VEGAS THAT WENT BY THE NAME OF PURPLE REIGN. THEY PUT ON AN EXCELLENT SHOW,BUT IT WAS FREE ADMISSION AT A SMALLER CASINO. SO I DON'T KNOW IF THIS WOULD BE THE SAME GROUP?

First: that picture of him is scary. But I have heard lots of good things about the Vegas folks, so if it's them, should be good.

Chene apparently holds about 6,000 people, not sure if this includes the lawn or just seating. I suspect including the lawn.

Damn you know something is wrong with the entertainment/concert industry when tribute bands are charging $20-$40 for a show.

I have never paid $40 for a Ani show.

This kind of sucks, or it might not be, because Saturday, August 23, is the next Detroit Crawl Housequake Houseparty.

If us motor babies can swing it, hmmm. But it will be awfully tough because we have some interesting things planned for the August Quake.

I looked at the link and didn't see anything about him coming to Detroit. . . and I haven't heard anything yet in the news here or on radio.

I take you guys word that he puts on a good show, because in his picture, he looks NOTHING like Prince. shake I've seen impersonators that looked more dead on (but didn't necessarily put on a "dead on" show).

I've seen this band three times in Vegas...they play a tiny room in the Boardwalk casino Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11:00 to 2:00 a.m...when I first saw how small the room was, I thought it would be a joke, but this tribute band is so off the hook, that I was literally blown away...they are fronted by Jason, a 27 year old guy from Indiana who has every single move, and I mean EVERY NUANCE down...from the way he looks, moves, walks, dances, splits, winks, mugs, etc...he even plays a mean guitar (Live!), so don't worry about a "Memorex" show!...As an added benefit, Jason's brother Levant does an imitation of Morris Day on most nights...I've seen them do "Cool," "Get It Up," "777-9311," "Jungle Love," and "The Bird." During the Bird, Jason and Levant do the whole dance seen popularized in the Purple Rain film, including the "Chili Sauce" slide...it's high energy all the way, and just a complete good time...so if you're near Detroit in late August, shell out the $20 to $40 bucks...believe me...it's worth it.

Jason Tenner delivers what many have waited all too long for from Prince himself. To see this man,his tight band, and his sexy dancer reminds me of why we all fell in love with Prince's music and style in the first place. While Prince slips in Controversy,Head and Peach in medleys,Jason belts them out with the full passion they deserve at ALL times. And it's this style that attracts many 20 and 30 year olds out to his show on a steady basis, proving that Prince remains an artist that people still dig and want to love, but his current ways will prevent him from reaching the newer fan base that would reinvent his loyal following and true appreciation of his genius.Anyone who has never seen the Purple reign band at the Boardwalk casino dont know what they are missing. They announce after each set "that was Jason Tenner as Prince".You'll walk away thinking he IS Prince.Dont miss this show!

I live in detroit and my daughter saw this event about prince comming to chene park to do a show. I was all excited i even took the liberty to go to ticketmaster.com but didnt find anything on prince comming to detroit. So i thought about comming here to find out.I really do hope this is not a joke about a fake ass prince. To tell the truth i wouldnt dare spend my money to see a fake. I think its bold to even advertise prince concert flicks as if he was comming here to detroit if it isnt true. They should have just said cmon down to see a prince impersonator playing at chene park. lol

It's NOT the only good thing in Detroit! disbelief

Local TV has been playing the commercial advertisements
for this event, featuring clips of Jason. He's got
the moves down nod. The ads are kinda cheesy though,
"Coming to Chene Park...PRINCEMANIA!". They make it sound
like a blow-out sale. lol

I think I'll skip this, as I'm hoping to head to Vegas next
year. I'll catch them there. I'm hittin' the PARTY instead, and hittin' it hard!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

We just talked to Jason out in vegas and as far as he knows they don't have any affiliation with the proposed show in Detroit. He is going to look into it further. We are't sure if it is supposed to be them or just someone using the same name. We can't even find any further info on that event at Chene park.
I'll keep you posted if we get anymore info from him.
