Second San Jose gig report Awesome show: few cool highlights and some weird sh*t!!
First the weird shit. I was near the stage where a lot of stuff happened. For the first time, I saw a Priest at a Prince concert..why? Don't know. Ppl fainted and two fights broke out near me which Prince saw and took action on and alerted security, big props to Prince for that! Prince pulled some of the ugliest, scankiest chicks I've ever see(I saw mostly fine chicks upfront, WTF?). To the 80 year old chick that wore the Vanity-lingerie purple outfit...DEFINITELY NOT COOL!! But she and some phat chicks that were about to explode out of their tight outfits were pulled on stage(i know, I'm cruel but I nearly puked!) Prince actually pulled one of them(phat chicks) to the front of the stage and sang TOO MUCH BOOTIE IN THE PANTIES...TOO MUCH BOOTIE IN THE PANTS. A guy which Prince called "Identity Crisis Problem #1" got pulled on stage. Who the f*#& is this guy?? He was a tall guy wearing a glittery ski mask and wearing a Prince SOTT Denim outfit with a picture of Prince on the back of his jacket and holding some metel-glittery " " symbol. Big Aaron saw this guy and quickly ESCORTED him offstage. BayNPG was in "full effect" on stage, with many of the guys freakin Geneva(Randy, you stud YOU!hehehee!). Poor Geneva. Ok, to the girls that grabbed and squeezed my arms and legs while saying "I LOVE PRINCE", FU!! Next time, youz gets a bite from Rudedog!!
Ok, off to the good parts. Prince, nice guitar work on ICNTTPYM, Purple Rain, Uptown. Great vocals on Beautiful Ones, Scandelous, Ballad Dorothy Parker(nice piano solo on this one) and Nothing Compares 2 U. Everything was cool, but the over exaggerated Najee solos were a bit much. He's a great player, but he needs to know when to say when. He got a lot of great response from the audience, but as a former musician blowing a bunch of notes like that is NOT impressive. Mutiny, Housequake and ICNTTPYM were the highlights for me. Its great he's playin Mutiny and Housequake again! Having a horn player definitely adds to those songs! Even though the setlist was about same as Ruby Skye, the thing that impressing me most about Prince throughout the years is that he never really plays a song the same twice. I thought I would be bored with the same setlist, but he really knows how to improvise. Of course, the song edits were annoying as hell, but for the most part he played the full versions of songs. I like the new arrangement with Scandelous and the way he's dancin to it. He still get make the ladies faint(why, I'll never know) with the slow songs like Do Me Baby. This concert I think topped Ruby Skye which was hard to do probably because he was in a better mode at San Jose then at Ruby Skye. Very religious speech during Purple Rain(as you probably read on Prince.org), it is actually the most religious I've ever heard also. It was almost like we were at church with Blackwell hittin' the drums after ever line Prince made during the speech. Still, its Prince and he always makes those speeches so blah blah on with the show. He has some real impressive musicians in his band, of course Blackwell is badass, Rhonda is great, Kip, well Kip is Kip:) Mr. Hayes as always is cool, but I really liked how Prince let every musician solo somewhere in the show. Last note, Prince takes way too long to come out. I know he's Prince and a musician and blah blah, but making ppl wait an hour and half at Ruby Skye and one hour at San Jose is just ridiculous. The pit is hot and sweaty and ppl get grumpy REAL fast! Anyways, great show and nice professional cameras were used to film the show. | |
