Second report on Dallas performance First of all, let me say thanks to Prince for choosing Dallas as one of the few cities to see the “Hit N Run” tour. You have many fans here that enjoy your work!!!
The show started at 9:20. The stage set up had the drums off center right with a small platform to the left of the drums. Keyboards were on both sides. Behind the stage stood a split projection screen that had designs and visual effect displaying throughout the performance. “Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you” in the 1999 version rang out while a visual effect of moving down a tunnel was displayed on the split screen. P started off with Uptown as previous reviews have reported. The song list included: Controversy, Mutiny, Little Red Corvette, Dorothy Parker, The Beautiful Ones (very funky), Raspberry Beret, Sexy Dancer, I wanna be your lover, Lets go Crazy, Take me with you, Darling Niki, ICNTTPOYM and a lot more I can’t think of now. He ended the show (the 1st time) with Purple Rain and did a little preaching. After he said “Goodnight Dallas”, the crowd noise became so loud that I though my ear drums were going to burst. He came back to sing She’s always in my hair and then Kiss. He said that he was tired of dancing so he let 20 or so people on the stage. One was a look-a-like that he poked fun of for a minute. A blond woman started dirty dancing with him and he quickly expressed his disapproval. He ended the show with Gett Off. I expected to hear Pop Life as the closer but it did not happen. They announced that the after party was going to take place at the Gypsy Tea Room. I decided not to go. Positives: The Band was tight and he played longer versions of songs than I expected. The sound was excellent. At 42 Prince is still at the top of his game. He seemed to be having fun and as usual the energy level was high. Prince is still the best showman I have ever seen. Negative: The stage was to low. The vast majority of the floor seats sucked. He feature Najee a little to often (although his instrumental of Computer Blue was terrific). I also think Rhonda is under utilized. Dallas is ready for a new CD and a larger venue. | |
