Fourth report on Nashville gig I attended the Nashville show last night with my girlfriend and a few other friends. After some hassles with the will call system, we got to our seats in the first row, center stage, right behind Princes guitar tech.
After some waiting (although it was expected, he hasn't started on time, in the past 6 times i've seen him)the show began. i was expecting the Najee solo to start, but instead, it started with the PA playing snipets of songs including Big Fun and Face Down. Rhondas upright was onstage, but was removed right before everyone came onstage. I guess they decided to change the intro. Everything you've read about the band is on point. They were spectacular. i can see where Najee would be too much for some, but damn, that brother can play. The two people we came with hadn't seen him since the purple rain tour, so this was a treat for them as well. As for those complaining about the absence of a second guitarist, his tech *does* play some during the show, although from under the stage. I managed to snag a pick that he threw out during the first half of the show. Then, during Come On, he took the big purple hat i had on, and wore it for a verse or two, and played "peek-a-boo" with soem girl on stage, with the big brim of it. Pretty cool. He tossed his black come on hat towards me, but it ended up under the stage. When he threw my hat off stage, the guitar tech handed it back to me. (with a bottle of water?!? i guess he thought i was thirsty from dancing my ass off....) after the show, every one kept asking me how i ended up with the hat he wore onstage, and if they could touch it. go figure. all in all, it was a great show for me. although i'm sure my seating had a deal to do with it. Prince had some problems with his mic at the start of the show, and he exchanged a few harsh words with the tech. I was worried that this would sour his mod for the entire show, but he perked back up, and seemed to have fun. THe after party was at a club called the outer-limits, and was decent (nice music, and good dancing). although they didn't have a stage for a performance. P came out and played to the crowd for a little while and gave some lucky S.O.B. one of his canes. When we were leaving, some guy was getting kicked out for peaking over top of the stalls in the bathroom at some other guy. They called him a pervert and said they didn't run that kind of club. and had to physically remove him. what a trip. | |
